IPL 2020 To Kick-Start With Inaugural All-Stars Game On March 29

Indian cricket fans and cricket fans around the world that follow the Indian Premier League (IPL) are in for a pleasant surprise. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly came up with the idea of an All Star game and the BCCI approved the idea. The inaugural All Star IPL game will take place on March 29, three days before the start of the 2020 IPL.

North East vs. South West Franchises

The BCCI has not yet released detailed information on the proposed All Star game. The venue, team captains and playing XI is yet to be finalized and will most likely be done by the end of February or in early March. The All Star game can take place in any of the IPL venues around the country but Mumbai will most likely not host the game since the opening game and the IPL final will be held in Mumbai.

The BCCI has also not confirmed who the captains will be but has specified the IPL franchises from the North and Eastern parts of Indian will join forces to take on teams from the South and Western parts of India.

This means that Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals will team up and put together a playing XI, while the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challenges Bangalore will team up to finalize their playing XI.

This will be the first time that an All Star match will take place in the IPL and it is quite likely that the IPL governing body will continue with an All Star with each IPL edition going forward.

Will MS Dhoni Captain?

MS Dhoni is expected to return after a long leave of absence from international duties and take on his captaincy role with the Chennai Super Kings. Indian fans are very interested to see if the BCCI will select MS Dhoni to captain one of the All Star franchises. MSD will have a lot of competition in the form of current captain V Kohli and vice-captain R Sharma who is also the captain of the Mumbai Indians – who are the defending IPL champions.

The BCCI is also yet to announce who will be the two head coaches for the All Star game. Fans can expect a lot of entertainment during the IPL All Star game as it will in some ways mirror the All Star game that takes place in the NBA every season.
