South Africa did not show up for the second test of the Freedom Series in Pune as it turned out to be a one sided match. India outplayed the Proteas in all departments of the game and ended up enforcing the follow on and winning by an innings and 137 runs.
The Virat Kohli Show
Virat Kohli can take full credit for the win in the second test match as he did everything right. Kohli won the toss and had no hesitation asking South Africa to bowl. M Agarwal (108) who hit a double century in the first test once again took to the South African bowlers and brought up another century.
C Pujara (58) and A Rahane (59) also had a great opportunity to go on to make a big hundred but they failed. V Kohli put together a master battling class as he showed patience, determination and played all the shots in the book to get to his seventh test double century.
The Indian captain remained unbeaten on 254 as he and R Jadeja who was promoted to number 6 launched an attack on the South African bowlers who looked really tired after spending nearly 2 days in the field. R Jadeja fell on 91 and Kohli declared at 601.
Proteas Show Lack Of Fighting Spirit
U Yadav who played as the third seamer immediately made his presence felt as he picked up two quick wickets in the South African first innings. Faf du Plessis (64) for some reason decided to bat at 6 was the only top order batsman that put up any resistance. V Philander (44) and K Maharaj (72) fought hard but once they were gone R Ashwin made quick work of the tail and finished with 4 wickets.
India enforced the follow on and the Proteas showed a lack of fighting spirit as they folded quickly and showed no resistance. U Yadav once again picked up 3 wickets and so did R Jadeja to bowl South Africa out for just 189 in the second innings.
V Kohli was full of praise for his team who now sit on top of the points table of the World Test Championship rankings. He had special praise for W Saha who had a great game behind the stumps and has shown the selectors that he is indeed the first choice keeper in the 5 day format!
