Mumbai Indians Win Fourth IPL Championship After Defeating CSK By 1 Run

The Mumbai Indians had the wood over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) right throughout the 2019 IPL winning all three of their encounters leading up to the final. The IPL Final in Hyderabad on Sunday night went down to the wire as the momentum shifted between the two sides throughout the game, keeping both fans and players at the edge of their seats.

In the end, it was the Mumbai Indians who held their nerves and managed to win by 1 run, keeping their record spotless against CSK this season.

CSK Bowlers Deliver But Batsmen Fail

CSK have failed as a batting unit on a number of occasions but there bowlers have helped them win right throughout the tournament. The bowlers once again delivered on Sunday night as they restricted the powerful Mumbai Indians bowling line-up to 149. DL Chahar and I Tahir once again had a great game taking 5 wickets between them.

CSK had a good start and looked on track to chase down the total as Faf du Plessis and S Watson played well. The Mumbai Indians dropped S Watson thrice during the match to make things more difficult for themselves. However some fine bowling by J Bumrah and leggie R Chahar kept the Mumbai Indians in the game.

L Malinga who was expensive in his first three overs was entrusted by R Sharma to bowl the final over and he delivered, helping the Mumbai Indians to secure their 4th IPL Championship. J Bumrah received the man of the match award for his special performance while A Russell received the man of the series award and also the award for the best-strike rate in the IPL which was over 200.

In a statement, MS Dhoni said “As a team we had a good season. But we need to go back and reflect. Wasn’t one of those years where we played very good cricket. Middle order never clicked, but somehow we managed. To be consistent next year, we will have to really think hard.”

Mumbai Indians – The Complete Team

R Sharma failed with the bat but he certainly came through as a captain and has shown that he is both tactical and not very emotional under pressure. He played down his role and credited the Mumbai Indians win to an overall team performance.

Mumbai Indians have now won more IPL championships than another team in the IPL history!
