IPL 2019 Eliminator: Can Sunrisers Beat The Delhi Capitals To Advance To Qualifier 2?

The Delhi Capitals will consider themselves just a tad unlucky to be in the 2019 eliminator against the Sunrisers. The Capitals have had a good run at the 2019 IPL and was in second place on the IPL points table for most of the tournament but slipped to third place as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians had a better net run rate than them.

As a result, they will have to play Sunrisers Hyderabad on 08 May in Visakhapatnam in a do or die match. The Sunrisers will have the home advantage.

The winner will advance to Qualifier 2 and take on the loser of Qualifier 1: which is between the Mumbai Indians and CSK, taking place on May 7.

What Delhi Capitals Must Do To Win

This is the first time in six seasons that the Delhi franchise has made it to the IPL playoffs. That speaks volumes of the young S Iyer who has done a great job in captaining the side and also performing with the bat throughout the season.

The Capitals have done well mostly because their domestic players have performed consistently. The likes of S Dhawan, R Pant, S Iyer, A Mishra and A Patel will need to perform yet again during the eliminator if the Capitals are going to send the Sunrisers packing.

The overseas players haven’t been as consistent as they would have liked and it would be a big bonus if C Ingram and S Rutherford and put in a big performance when it really matters.

What Sunrisers Must Do To Win

The Sunrisers will be kicking themselves for being in the eliminator as they had a great start to the tournament but lose their momentum midways. The Sunrisers have problems at the top of the order with the absence of their hard hitting D Warner who has returned for national duty.

M Guptill is one of the most explosive batsmen in World Cricket but has a problem with being consistent. Sunrisers will depend heavily on their middle-order which includes captain K Williamson, V Shankar, M Pandey and Y Pathan.

The two overseas players from Afghanistan had a poor outing during their last game against RCB which the Sunrisers ended up losing. R Khan and M Nabi will have to be at their best if they are going to beat the Delhi Capitals and book themselves a place in Qualifier 2.
