The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have booked themselves a place in the 2019 IPL playoffs. That leaves just one more slot open and four teams will battle it out during the next few days to secure vital points and a superior net run rate to make it to the playoffs.
The four teams that are competing for the final spot are Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. These four teams are in contention for the final playoff spot based on mathematical possibilities but in reality it the Sunrisers have the best chances of making it to the playoffs even though they lost their match on Thursday night against the Mumbai Indians in an exciting super over that enabled the Mumbai Indians to qualify.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Favorites To Qualify
One of the main reasons why the Sunrisers are the favorites to qualify is thanks to their superior run rate when compared to the other teams. Even though they are now without the services of David Warner, the Sunrisers can secure 2 points if they win their next game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who are out of the competition.
Should the Sunrisers lose to RCB they are still in with a chance due to their run rate. The Sunrisers are currently in fourth place in the IPL points table with a total of 12 points.
Rajasthan Royals – Still Keeping The Faith
Right behind the Sunrisers are the Rajasthan Royals in fifth place with 11 points. The Royals must win their final game against the Delhi Capitals and then keep their hopes up as they need the Sunrisers to lose their remaining matches and they need Kings XI and KKR to win only one of their remaining matches. There’s a lot of probability involved in them making it to the playoffs.
Kings XI Punjab – Must Win Games
The math is very simple when it comes to what the Kings XI team needs to do. They must win both their matches against KKR and CSK to have any chance of qualifying, as they now sit in 7th place. This is going to be a difficult task for them and in all likelihood they will be eliminated shortly.
KKR – Must Win Both Their Matches
KKR will once again be relying on Andre Russell to deliver and see them through. The Knight Riders must also win their two remaining matches against the Kings XI and Mumbai Indians to qualify.
