India lost the T20 series 2-0 and needed to win the first ODI match in the 5 match series to stop Australia’s momentum. India were able to do just that thanks to a great bowling performance and another special known from Kedar Jadhav.
Australia Struggle Against Spin
Australian captain Aaron Finch is one of the best ODI players in the world when he is on song but he hasn’t been able to buy a run for quite some time now. Australia have literally played one player short as Finch has failed them at the top of the order but continues to retain his place in the side as he is the captain.
The Aussies were only able to get to 236 batting first in Hyderabad and that was always going to be a very gettable total for a strong Indian batting line-up. Only U Khawaja managed to get a half-century as the Indian bowlers were relentless and the spinners kept things very tight.
K Jadhav can no longer be considered a part-time spinner as he has proven time and time again that he can not only bowl economically but he can also take crucial wickets. Jadhav sent down 7 overs, conceded just 31 runs and took the crucial wicket of M Stoinis.
Jadhav And Dhoni Get India Home
India were in trouble right away as S Dhawan fell first ball and continued his poor run of form. R Sharma and V Kohli put together a 76 run partnership but both of them fell in quick succession along with A Rayudu which gave Australia a glimmer of hope.
However, K Jadhav and MS Dhoni steadied the ship and made sure that they were always in control of the run-rate. Jadhav took the pressure of MS Dhoni as he found the boundary regularly to release the pressure. Jadhav finished on 81 not-out in an innings that included 1 six and 9 fours while Dhoni was also unbeaten on 59.
K Jadhav was given the man of the match award for his contributions with both the bat and the ball. Jadhav did give MS Dhoni a lot of credit for mentoring him throughout the innings and it is clear that Jadhav is growing with each match that he plays. The small-made Jadhav has shown that he can play a crucial role for India in the ODI format and it is high time the selectors made him a regular member of the T20 squad.
