The 5 match ODI series between India and the West Indies proved to be very intriguing for the first three contests. India won the first ODI in convincing form and then the West Indies fought back to tie the second ODI. They would go on to even the series in the third match and with the scores at 1-1, the fourth and fifth ODI was expected to provide another close contest.
West Indies Collapse Under Pressure
This young West Indian team has a lot of potential but they were not prepared for the pressure that comes with playing in India against India. They folded in the fourth ODI at Mumbai and lost by 224 runs and were down on confidence as they went into the series decider.
The 5th and final ODI took place at the Thiruvananthapuram stadium in Kerala and the West Indies decided to bat first after winning the toss. They were immediately in trouble as all the Indian bowlers picked up wickets and never allowed the Caribbean Kings to form a partnership.
Jadeja was the main wrecker taking four wickets in his ten overs, while K Ahmed and J Bumrah chipped in with 2 wickets each to restrict the West Indies to 104.
In a statement, Jadeja said “I’m enjoying my game at the moment. Whenever I come on the field, I just try to give my best. Whatever opportunity I get, I’ll try to take it with both hands.”
Indian Batsmen Make Quick Work
S Dhawan had a poor series and got out cheaply for 6. R Sharma and V Kohli who have been in tremendous form once again played beautifully to chase down the total in just 14.5 overs and give India a 3-1 series victory. This is India’s sixth consecutive series win at home and they will now gear up for a three match T20 series.
India found a little stability in their middle-order with A Rayudu making a couple of good scores. It looks like K Jadhav will be given more opportunities now that he is fit gain. Their bowling looks real sound with Jadeja also stepping up and showing he can still deliver in the ODI format and newcomer K Ahmed showing a lot of promise.
The man of the match award was given to R Jadeja and the man of the series went to captain V Kohli.
T20 Series Next
The West Indies will be disappointed at how the ODI series finished but will want to come back hard in the T20 series. The first T20 starts on Sunday, November 4 and will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
