India had to win the fourth test against England to keep the series alive but they came up short at Southampton after suffering battling collapses in both innings. They lost by 60 runs and squandered a great chance to win. We rate the playing eleven based on their performance.
S Dhawan: Scored 23 and 17 in the test and has not spent enough time at the crease to get a big score. We give him 3/10.
KL Rahul: has been the biggest disappointment of the series getting out cheaply yet again with 19 and 0. He has not repaid the selectors for their faith in him and the only good thing one can say about him is his catching at second slip. We give him 1/10.
C Pujara: came good in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 132. His partnership with the tail brought India back into the match. However, he failed in the second innings when India needed him the most, getting out on 5. We give him 8/10.
V Kohli: has batted fabulous throughout the series and once again did well scoring 46 and 56. However, he wasn’t able to go on and make a big three figure score. India has depended heavily on their captain and have done poorly when he has failed to make big scores. We give him 7/10.
A Rahane: failed in the first innings scoring just 11 but made up for it in the second scoring 51. As the vice-captain Rahane has continued to disappoint and has not been able to make big runs when it mattered. We give him a 5/10 rating.
R Pant: failed miserably in the first innings getting out for 0 and got out for 18 in the second. We give him 3/10.
H Pandya: a big disappointment with the bat getting out for 4 and 0 and taking just 1 wicket in the match. We give him 1/10.
R Ashwin: failed to deliver on a pitch that offered turn and let his side down. He took 3 wickets in the match compared to part-time spinner M Ali who took 9. We give Ashwin 2/10.
M Shami: took 2 wickets in the first innings and bowled well in the second to claim 4 wickets. We give him 7/10.
I Sharma: took 2 wickets in the first innings and 2 in the second with a good economy rate. We give him 6/10.
J Bumrah: took 3 wickets in the first innings and 1 in the second. We give him 5/10.
