India went into the third test under a lot of pressure from the media as well as their fans. They had to win the third test to keep the series alive and that is exactly what they did in a convincing manner. We take a look at the performances of the playing eleven.
S Dhawan: was brought back to replace M Vijay and he looked solid with scores of 35 and 44. He gets a rating of 6/10. He needs to convert his starts into big scores and get a hundred in the fourth test.
KL Rahul: looked a lot better scoring 23 and 36 but Rahul knows that isn’t good enough for a batman of his quality. He made up for his lack of runs by taking 7 catches in the slips and not letting the bowlers down. He gets a rating of 6/10.
C Pujara: failed in the first innings with 14 but finally found some form scoring 72 in the second innings. His strike rate continues to be poor but India will have to use him as an anchor and play around him. He gets a rating of 5/10
V Kohli: once again showed that he is the best batsman in the squad falling short of a 100 in the first innings (97) but going on to get one in the second 103. He gets a rating of 9/10
A Rahane: finally played like the way we know he can, scoring 81 in the first innings and 29 in the second innings. He gets a rating of 6/10
R Pant: made his debut and looked solid behind the stumps taking 5 catches in the first innings and 2 more in the second innings. He looked a lot more confident with the bat and will definitely play the fourth test. He gets a rating of 7/10.
H Pandya: destroyed England in the first innings with 5 wickets and then went on to score a half century in the second. He also picked up the crucial wickets of Ben Stokes in the second innings. He gets a rating of 8/10.
R Ashwin: was injured and that hampered his bowling. He will most likely miss the next test. He gets a rating of 2/10.
M Shami: disappointing to say the least. He should be dropped for the fourth test and replaced by U Yadav. He gets a rating of 2/10
I Sharma: gave India the breakthrough when they really needed it, picking up 2 wickets in each innings. He gets a rating of 6/10.
J Bumrah: showed why he should be in the test side with 2 wickets in the first and 5 wickets in the second. He showed heart and resilience and bowled with a lot of pace. He gets a rating of 8/10
