Poker Popularity Growing in India
Poker has become increasingly popular in India especially among young players. The entry of top poker operators such as PokerStars and the WPT have helped fuel the interest in poker as high paying tournaments have attracted the attention of the younger generation and has also made it possible for poker pros in India to make a living without having to travel to overseas to play poker tournaments.
WPT Expanding in Asia
The event in India is one of a number of stops announced by WPT in the Asia-Pacific region in its efforts to expand into emerging markets. Vietnam will have its own WPT event as well, which will take place at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City from September 26 to October 4. Some of the top Indian poker players might make a trip to Vietnam for the tournament or schedule a trip later in the year as the WPT is expected to make stops in Japan and South Korea.
