India Win T20 Series In Style To Start England Tour On A Winning Note

India started their tour of the UK with a T20 series win over Ireland and followed that up with a T20 series win over England. The series was tied one-a-piece when the two teams clashed in Bristol for the third T20 on Sunday.

Indian Bowlers Restrict England To 198

The T20 England squad is one of the best teams in the world and they got off to a flying start with J Roy and J Butler dispatching the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground. England were all set to get a total in excess of 200 as they were 94-1 at the end of 8 overs and had a lot of batting to come.

Credit must be given to the Indian bowlers and to H Pandya in particular who pulled things back by picking up wickets at regular intervals. Pandya finished with 4 overs for 38 runs and picked up 4 wickets which included the dangerous A Hales, captain E Morgan, B Stokes and J Bairstow. Those four crucial wickets made a massive difference as England could only get to 198. MS Dhoni was also spectacular behind the stumps and became the first keeper in T20 cricket to take 5 catches.

R Sharma Hits 3rd T20 Century To Take India Home

England were about 20 runs short as they knew they were up against one of the best sides in the world when it comes to chasing down totals. They started well picking up the wicket of S Dhawan but R Sharma found form when it mattered and stitched together vital partnerships with V Kohli (43) and H Pandya (33) to take India home with 8 balls to spare. Sharma remained unbeaten on 100 hitting 5 sixes and 11 fours and finished with a strike rate of 178. He was also awarded the Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards.

H Pandya was promoted ahead of S Raina and MS Dhoni and the young all-rounder showed why Kohli has so much faith in him. Pandya also delivered with the bat smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes to remain unbeaten at the other end with a strike rate of 235.

This is the 6th successive T20 series for India and they have once again showed that they are brilliant when it comes to chasing down totals. India will take a lot of confidence from this T20 series win into the ODI series as most of the T20 players will be a part of that 3 match ODI series which starts on 12th July.
