England Lose First ODI As They Struggle To Find Answers To A Dominant Indian Side

Sports fans in England have not had a great week so far as England lost the T20 series on Sunday, bowed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday and lost the first ODI on Thursday.

K Yadav Strikes Again

India sent England in to bat and they got off to a flying start as J Roy and J Bairstow cut loose. They were 70 for no loss at the end of 10 overs and a total in excess for 300 was very much on the cards. K Yadav who did not play the third T20 was introduced into the attack and he wasted no time in moving both the openers.

England once again struggled to pick the left arm wrist spinner and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Captain Virat Kohli also used K Yadav wisely and brought him on whenever he wanted to break a partnership and the young left arm spinner delivered yet again. He broke the back of the England batting line-up and finished with excellent figures of 10-0-25-06.

England have been unstoppable in the shorter format of the game but they couldn’t find their feet against an Indian attack that was missing their front line seamers in B Kumar and J Bumrah. England were bowled out for 268 with one ball to spare.

R Sharma Hits Century and Remains Unbeaten

Rohit Sharma hit a century in the third T20 to lead India to a series win and he continued where he left off in Nottingham. S Dhawan played a cameo at the start to get India off to a flyer and when he fell for 40, the hitman took charge and put together a match winning partnership with Kohli (75). R Sharma hit yet another ODI century and remained unbeaten on 137 as he led India to victory and gave them a 1-0 series lead. His knock included 15 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 120.

K Yadav received the man of the match award for his excellent bowling performance and the youngster made it clear that he would like a crack at playing test cricket. India is due to announce its test squad in a few days and Kohli did not close the door on that possibility and heaped praise on Yadav.

In a statement, V Kohli said “Kuldeep was outstanding, I don’t think I’ve seen a better ODI spell in a while. We want him confident because we know he can be a match winner.”
