Indian Captain Virat Kohli Takes 83rd Place On Forbes Richest Athletes In The World

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricketing body in the sport and there is no surprise that Indian cricketers are the best paid cricketers in the world. Forbes recently released its 2018 list of the highest paid athletes in the world and Indian captain Virat Kohli has taken the 83rd spot.

Kohli Continues To Grow In Fame And Fortune

Widely recognized as one of the best batsmen in the world, the Indian captain is being paid handsomely by his employer the BCCI and also makes a fortune from endorsements. Last year, Kohli took the 89th spot on Forbe’s highest paid athletes in the world and this year he has moved up six places.

Virat Kohli is expected to earn around $24 million for 2017-2018 and the breakup shows that $20 million comes from his endorsements and the remaining $4 million from his total salary. In terms of his total salary, Kohli takes the 95th spot on the list but in terms of total endorsements he takes the 15th place on the list.

The BCCI has just 5 players on an A+ contract and Kohli is one of those players. This contract pays him $1 million retainer plus fees from the tests, ODIs and T20 matches he plays for India throughout the year. He takes home another $2.65 million for representing and captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The fact that Kohli is making a killing in endorsements comes as no surprise as Kohli has cult like status in the land of 1.3 billion people and just about every prominent brand in the country wants Kohli to endorse them, provided they can afford his fees.

Virat Kohli also stole the spotlight earlier this year when he took the 11th place on ESPN’s Fame 100 – which is a list of the most famous athletes in the world. Kohli beat the likes of Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.

Mayweather Tops Forbes Rich List

Floyd Mayweather continues to top Forbes Rich List as ‘Money Mayweather’ has continued to set new records and make millions. Mayweather made an estimated $275 million for his fight against UFC star Conor McGregor last year. McGregor took fourth place on the list.

There have only been two other cricketers to have featured on Forbes Rich List in the past and both of them have been Indians. Sachin Tendulkar took the 51st spot and MS Dhoni took the 13th spot back in 2013.
