Ambati Rayudu Fails Mandatory YoYo Test And Suresh Raina Benefits With Call Up For England ODI’s

Ambati Rayudu has not been part of the ODI squad but his performances in the 2018 IPL for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was recognized by the selectors and he was shortlisted for the 3 match ODI series in England.

Rayudu Fails YoYo Test

However, Rayudu failed a fitness test and as a result had to be dropped from the squad that will tour England. Reports suggest that Rayudu has failed the notorious YoYo test which really tests one’s fitness and cardio. This will be a huge blow for Rayudu who was trying to find his way back into international cricket.

Rayudu is not the first Indian cricketer to get dropped from the squad after being selected due to not passing the YoYo test. Some of the other cricketers who have failed the YoYo test in include Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and most recently Mohammed Shami. Shami lost his place in the test squad to face Afghanistan and was told to go work on his fitness.

Ironically, the cricketer who replaces Rayudu will be Suresh Raina who has worked on his fitness and cleared the YoYO test.

In a statement, the BCCI said on their website “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Suresh Raina as Ambati Rayudu’s replacement in India’s ODI squad for the series against England.”

Raina Gets One More Opportunity To Perform

Suresh Raina has played recently for India in the T20 format but he has not been part of the ODI side since October 2015. Raina’s loss of form and drop in fitness were key reasons by the 31 year old has been overlooked by the selectors.

Raina will want to make the most of this opportunity and knows that he will not be getting many more opportunities if he fails because there are a lot of young cricketers pushing for a place in the ODI side. He has a problem with short pitch bowling and is also a shaky starter to the swinging Duke ball. Raina will also be a part of the T20 squad and will look to cement his place in both the ODI and T20 sides with strong performances.

The YoYo test has now become a mandatory test to fitness levels and has greatly impacted how the Indian side perform and look on the field. Kohli has inspired a team of fitness freaks such as H Pandya, KL Rahul and M Pandey.
