The Sunrisers looked to have one foot in the final of IPL 11 when they had the Super Kings struggling in reply to a sub-par first innings total in Tuesday’s first qualifier. However, CSK’s batting depth was their strength once again but SRH have one more chance of making that final as they travel to Kolkata for Friday’s final qualifier.
Waiting for Kane Williamson’s side are a Knight Riders team who successfully defended a par score against the Royals on Wednesday to keep their season alive. The Sunrisers were the best side in the play offs but Kolkata have the better form right now so who will make their way through to Sunday’s final?
The bookmakers are going for the form team here with the Knight Riders favourites for the win at 1.75 with Betfair, leaving Hyderabad out at 2.10 with Betfair again. The Sunrisers’ poor run is an obvious concern and despite being the first side to make it through to the play offs, they have lost their last four games.
One of those defeats came against KKR although in the head to heads, the teams produced one win apiece during the regular season.
It’s always easy to side with the favourites but in beating Rajasthan on Wednesday. The Knight Riders showed just why they are a threat in this game and possibly in the final as the spinners tied down a Royals team who looked set for a successful run chase. Expect another impressive KKR display on their own surface at Eden Gardens.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: 2.10 (Betfair), Kolkata Knight Riders 1.75 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick)
Carlos Brathwaite’s 43 gave Sunrisers a faint chance of overcoming the Super Kings last time out but in general, SRH weakened their batting when bringing in the West Indian and dropping Alex Hales. For Friday’s game, Kane Williamson is favourite to score most runs against KKR at 3.50 with Betfair while Shikhar Dhawan is close behind at 3.75 with Betfair again.
Hales is still listed as an option at 4.33 with Betfair while other possibilities include Manish Pandey at 5.50, Shakib Al Hasan at 8.50 and Yusuf Pathan at 11.00 – all with Betway.
For the Knight Riders, Dinesh Karthik shored up their innings after a top order wobble against the Royals and the skipper is his side’s current leading run scorer at IPL 11. Despite that, Chris Lynn is the bookmaker’s favourite and the Aussie is available at 4.00 with Betway to score most Kolkata runs on Friday.
Robin Uthappa is next at 4.75 with Betway while Karthik will be of interest to many at tempting odds of 5.50 with Betfair. Elsewhere, Sunil Narine has drifted to a very generous 7.50 with Betway while other KKR options include Andre Russell at 9.50 with Betfair and Shubman Gill at 12.00 with Betway.
We took Chris Lynn and Shikhar Dhawan in their most recent games and while both men let us down, they’ve each provided some good profits in this tournament and neither will be out of form for long.
Dhawan is a tempting pick as Sunrisers’ second favourite but with Lynn drifting out to odds of 4.00, we would suggest taking that price quickly as it’s a generous figure for an in-form and devastating hitter.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Williamson 3.50 (Betfair), Dhawan 3.75 (Betfair), Hales 4.33 (Betfair), Pandey 5.50 (Betway), Shakib 8.50 (Betway), Yusuf Pathan 11.00 (Betway).
Kolkata Knight Riders: Lynn 4.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Uthappa 4.75 (Betway), Karthik 5.50 (Betfair), Narine 7.50 (Betway), Russell 9.50 (Betfair), Gill 12.00 (Betway).
Other Side Bets
As we’ve led you through a very full round up of our opening markets, we will finish very quickly with our final tip. KKR’s batting has been sound for most of the tournament but it’s the bowlers who have been most impressive and the slow men completely strangled the Royals in the middle overs after Rahane and Samson had made a strong start.
We expect them to do the same to the Sunrisers and as Piyush Chawla was the Top Bowler last time out, we’re taking him once again at excellent odds of 6.00 with Betway in a market where Sunil Narine is a short priced favourite.
Kolkata Knight Riders Top Bowler Odds Summary: Narine 3.50 (Betfair), Yadav 4.33 (Betfair), Russell 5.00 (Betway), Chawla 6.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick).
