While the Super Kings suffered a dip in form towards the end of the group phase, it had seemed from an early stage that these sides would finish in the top two. Neither the Sunrisers nor CSK are unbeatable but they have been the most consistent teams at IPL 11 and both deserve their place in Tuesday’s first qualifier.
During the regular season, Chennai won both of the head-to-heads so do MS Dhoni’s men hold the advantage as they travel to Mumbai?
CSK are clear favourites and for many, it may be a surprise that this market isn’t tighter. Chennai are available for the win at 1.75 with Betway while the Sunrisers follow some way in the distance at 2.10 with Betfair.
All the signs do point to the Super Kings: They have the better form and that superior record in the head-to-heads but Hyderabad do seem to rally for the big occasions. Batting needs more support from the middle order as there is a tendency to rely on Williamson and Dhawan but if that impressive SRH bowling attack can claim key early wickets, they will have real value in that 2.10 price.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 2.10 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Chennai Super Kings 1.75 (Betway).
While there have been isolated contributions from other players, two men have dominated the Sunrisers’ top batsman markets and for Tuesday’s game in Mumbai, it’s Kane Williamson who starts as favourite to score most runs for his side at 3.30 with Betfair. Shikhar Dhawan follows at 3.60 while there may be some interest in Alex Hales, if he starts, at 4.50 – both with Betfair.
While the middle order hasn’t been so impressive, there have been contributions from Manish Pandey who is at 7.50 and Yusuf Pathan at 15.00. Once again, both of those prices are from Betfair.
Over in the Chennai Super Kings version of this market things are much tighter as Ambati Rayudu starts as slight favourite at 3.75 with Betway. Suresh Raina is available at 4.00 with Betfair while Faf Du Plessis is back in the team and on offer at 4.33 with Betfair again.
Elsewhere, some operators have MS Dhoni as the favourite but the skipper can be picked up at 6.00 with Betfair while other options for CSK include Shane Watson at 4.50 with Betfair and Dwayne Bravo at 17.00 with Betway.
Dhoni looks a good prospect at that 6.00 price but as an overall tip we’re crossing to the Sunrisers and Shikhar Dhawan. There are times when you just identify with your own favourites and after delivering another profit with 50 against KKR, we’re keeping faith with the left hander.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Williamson 3.30 (Betfair), Dhawan 3.60 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Hales 4.50 (Betfair), Pandey 7.50 (Betfair), Yusuf Pathan 15.00 (Betfair).
Chennai Super Kings: Rayudu 3.75 (Betway), Raina 4.00 (Betfair), Du Plessis 4.33 (Betfair), Watson 4.50 (Betfair), Dhoni 6.00 (Betfair), Bravo 17.00 (Betway).
Other Side Bets
For our final tip, we could stay with the batting where there is some potential value in the Most Sixes market. CSK start as clear favourites to record most maximums at 1.61 with Betfair while the Sunrisers could give a great profit at 2.75 with Betfair again if Dhawan, Williamson and Hales all make contributions.
However, as we are looking for Hyderabad’s attack to make the significant contribution, we will finish with their Top Bowler market. Carlos Brathwaite came into the side to deliver a profit last time out and he will be seriously tempting at 9.00 with Betway to return best figures against the Super Kings.
The favourite here is Rashid Khan at 3.40 with Betfair but our pick is Siddarth Kaul at a generous 6.00 with Betway. He has enjoyed a consistent IPL and was just edged into second place by Brathwaite in that game against KKR. Form isn’t great but that bowling unit can step up again and take the Sunrisers straight into Sunday’s final.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Top Bowler Odds Summary: Rashid Khan 3.40 (Betfair), Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4.00 (Betway), Shakib Al Hasan 5.50 (Betway), Siddarth Kaul 6.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Brathwaite 9.00 (Betway).
