The occasional quirks of the IPL fixture list mean that these two sides will face each other in Jaipur on Tuesday just two days after completing the reverse fixture in Indore. Kings XI won that game quite comfortably, chasing down a sub-par total of 182 with eight balls to spare, leaving them nicely placed in the Top Three while Rajasthan remain at the bottom following that defeat.
It’s a quick turnaround for both teams ahead of an important week but who is best prepared to take the points in this fixture?
Kings XI’s superior batting display in Indore makes them very clear favourites for this game and you can back R Ashwin’s side at 1.66 with Betfair while the Royals’ rather weak performance leaves them as rank outsiders at 2.25 with Betfair again.
A lot of focus is on Chris Gayle’s availability and contributions but while the Jamaican made just eight on Sunday, Kings were indebted once again to KL Rahul who made a brilliant 84 from just 54 balls. The one concern, as we mentioned last time, is that KXIP could be vulnerable if both Gayle and Rahul were dismissed early but the Royals are struggling in all departments and we can’t see them taking the key wickets they would need in order to get themselves over the line.
Match Odds Summary: Rajasthan Royals: 2.25 (Betfair) Kings XI Punjab: 1.66 (Betfair).
Having been promoted to open the batting in a reduced overs chase against Delhi, Jos Buttler kept his place at the top of the order and the keeper has now top scored for two games in succession. Buttler is as short as 3.75 in some places but if you are backing him for Tuesday, Betfair have an excellent price of 6.00 next to his name.
Elsewhere, D’Arcy Short and Ajinkya Rahane start as joint overall favourites at 4.00 with Betway while Sanju Samson is at 4.50 and Ben Stokes at 6.00 with Betway once again. With Buttler promoted up the order, the long shot option could be Rahul Tripathi at 12.00 with Betfair.
Chris Gayle’s availability across a long tournament remains a selection issue for Kings XI but the left hander will continue to start as favourite to top score for his side on Tuesday at 3.00 with Betway. KL Rahul offers reasonable value at 3.75 with Betfair while Karun Nair is at 6.50 with Betfair having made a useful contribution in Sunday’s game.
This market could be a straight fight between Gayle and Rahul but other options include Yuvraj Singh at 9.00 and Marcus Stoinis at 11.00 – both with Betfair.
Rahul would be our preference again but the overall tip from these markets is for Sanju Samson to top score for Rajasthan. He started the tournament well and is due a big score when these sides meet.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Rajasthan Royals: Short 4.00 (Betway), Rahane 4.00 (Betway), Samson 4.50 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Buttler 6.00 (Betfair), Stokes 6.00 (Betway), Tripathi 12.00 (Betfair).
Kings XI Punjab: Gayle 3.00 (Betway), Rahul 3.75 (Betfair), Nair 6.50 (Betfair), Yuvraj 9.00 (Betfair), Stoinis 11.00 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
There could potentially be some value in the six hitting betting where Rajasthan Royals have drifted out to 2.70 with Betfair to hit the most maximums. However, Ajinkya Rahane’s men only cleared the ropes once in Sunday’s defeat and Kings XI would therefore look like the logical bet at 1.61 with Betfair again.
Instead, we will stay with the batting markets and take Rajasthan at 2.10 with Betfair to record the highest opening partnership. D’Arcy Short was dismissed with just three on the board at the weekend but he should really make way and the Royals could take this with a change at the top of the order.
Highest Opening Partnership Odds Summary: Kings XI Punjab 1.72 (Betfair), Rajasthan Royals 2.10 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), The Tie 41.00 (Betfair).
That would hopefully add a bonus profit for the day but overall, based on current form, we have to side with Kings XI Punjab as the match winners.
