IPL 11 – Match 38: Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals Odds and Betting Preview

Both sides will be eager for the points in this game but for very different reasons: Kings XI come into Sunday’s fixture following two straight defeats and will be targeting a win that keeps them clear of the chasing pack while Rajasthan suddenly find themselves at the bottom of the table after a poor week.

Neither team has any great form right now so how do we pick a winner in Sunday’s contest?

Match Odds

Kings XI have the better record of five wins from eight matches and R Ashwin’s side start as favourites for this game at odds of 1.83 with Betfair. That leaves Rajasthan at 2.05 with Betway and there is a possibility for the Royals to upset this market.

Clearly Chris Gayle is a key wicket and while KL Rahul has also had a decent tournament with the bat, Kings’ batting looked weak against Mumbai with Yuvraj Singh in at three. Rajasthan have hardly impressed with the ball but they can get over the line here as long as they get the openers cheaply.

Match Odds Summary: Kings XI Punjab 1.83 (Betfair), Rajasthan Royals 2.05 (Betway – Editor’s Pick).

Top Batsmen

Gayle was in good touch again, making fifty against Mumbai on Friday and the West Indian is an obvious favourite to top score for Kings XI on Sunday at odds of 3.50 with Betfair. Rahul is close behind at 3.60 with Betfair again while Karun Nair, who started the tournament in decent touch, is at 6.00 – also with Betfair.

If Aaron Finch misses out again then the profit is likely to come from those three players but other options for KXIP include Mayank Agarwal at 5.50 with Betway, plus Yuvraj Singh at 9.00 and Marcus Stoinis at 11.00 – both with Betfair.

Jos Buttler may now be a better option in the Royals’ top batsman betting as the keeper may well open the batting again following his 67 from 26 balls against Mumbai. Buttler can be backed at 7.00 with Betfair in a market where Ajinkya Rahane starts as favourite at 4.20 with Betfair again.

Sanju Samson is quoted at 4.33 with Betfair while Ben Stokes, who has had a quiet tournament so far, is on offer at 5.50 with Betway.

From these two sets of markets, I’ll take KL Rahul as an overall tip to top score for Kings XI Punjab. There is no guarantee that Chris Gayle will actually play a second game in three days and his fellow opener is in good, consistent touch right now.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: Kings XI Punjab: Gayle 3.50 (Betfair), Rahul 3.60 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Agarwal 5.50 (Betway), Nair 6.00 (Betfair), Yuvraj 9.00 (Betfair), Stoinis 11.00 (Betfair).

Rajasthan Royals: Rahane 4.20 (Betfair), Samson 4.33 (Betfair), Stokes 5.50 (Betway), Buttler 7.00 (Betfair), Tripathi 12.00 (Betfair).

Other Side Bets

For our final tip we could consider some of our favourite markets such as most sixes where there is some value. Kings XI Punjab start as obvious favourites here at 1.72 with Betfair while the Royals are definitely tempting at 2.75 with Betway.

Alternatively, while we’ve seen relatively few centuries in this edition of the IPL, Betway are quoting odds of 7.00 on any player from either side to go past three figures in this game.

However, we’ll finish with a top bowler market and Andrew Tye to return best figures for Kings XI Punjab. He may be the favourite but 4.00 with Betfair is a decent price and it’s time for his tricks and variations to give us a profit here.

Kings XI Punjab Top Bowler Odds Summary: Tye 4.00 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Ashwin 4.00 (Betfair), Sran 4.50 (Betfair), Sharma 4.50 (Betfair), Mujeeb 4.50 (Betfair), Patel 5.50 (Betfair).

While we’ve finished with a tip based on Kings XI’s bowlers, we think that the Rajasthan attack hold the key to this game and if they can get Gayle early, it should lead to a comfortable Royals win.
