Having suffered a rare defeat at the hands of KKR on Thursday, the Chennai Super Kings will be looking to recover against a Bangalore side who are starting to gain momentum after a slow start to IPL 11.
Chennai remain in a relatively comfortable position in the Top Four but their issues in the field were clearly exposed by the Knight Riders and that will be a concern for MS Dhoni’s team moving forward. Death bowling, catching and fielding were particularly poor but can CSK bounce back in Saturday’s fixture?
The bookies are firmly behind the Super Kings for this game with Dhoni’s men available at odds of 1.83 with Betfair for the win, leaving Royal Challengers Bangalore as the outside bet at 2.00 with Betway.
Usually, RCB get better support from the bookmakers and while Virat Kohli’s men aren’t exactly surging up the table, victory over the Mumbai Indians last time out was a far better team performance. Chennai Super Kings won the reverse fixture chasing a big total of 205 but we’ve been saying that if their batters don’t fire, the bowling unit is suspect and we think the Royal Challengers can take advantage.
Match Odds Summary: Chennai Super Kings 1.83 (Betfair), Royal Challengers Bangalore 2.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick).
MS Dhoni continues to shine for the Super Kings with an undefeated 43 from just 25 balls against KKR but his efforts weren’t enough despite the rest of the top order reaching double figures. For Saturday against RCB, Shane Watson is favourite to top score for his team at 4.00 with Betway while Suresh Raina follows on at 4.20 with Betfair.
Ambati Rayudu will tempt many at his odds of 5.00 with Betway but Dhoni remains a long-priced option at 7.00 with Betfair despite such a consistent season with the bat. Other options for Chennai, depending on selection, include Faf Du Plessis at 4.75 with Betway and Sam Billings at 6.00 with Betfair.
Over to Royal Challengers where we find Virat Kohli as the obvious favourite to top score for the away side at 3.10 with Betfair. RCB will hope that AB De Villiers has recovered from illness to become an option at 3.75 with Betway while Brendon McCullum at 4.50 with Betfair could make way if AB returns.
Other possibles for Bangalore include Quinton De Kock at 4.50 with Betfair or Manan Vohra at an excellent 8.00 with Betfair again but as an overall tip from these two sets of markets we’re going for Virat Kohli to top score for RCB. We’ve taken the outsiders in the result betting but the favourite in this particular market is the man most likely to carry on his consistent form and deliver the victory.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Chennai Super Kings: Watson 4.00 (Betway), Raina 4.20 (Betfair), Du Plessis 4.75 (Betway), Rayudu 5.00 (Betway), Billings 6.00 (Betfair), Dhoni 7.00 (Betfair).
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Kohli 3.10 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), De Villiers 3.75 (Betway), McCullum 4.50 (Betfair), De Kock 4.50 (Betfair), Vohra 8.00 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
As always there are lots of options for a final punt and you may be interested in CSK as the outsiders in the Most Sixes betting at 2.25 with Betfair as opposed to Bangalore’s 1.83 with Betfair again.
Alternatively, there is the Royal Challengers’ top bowler betting where we wait for Yuzvendra Chahal, at 3.75 with Betfair, to rediscover the form shown at previous IPLs.
Instead, we’ll just focus on the Man of the Match betting where Virat Kohli is quite nicely priced at 7.00 with Betway. We’re backing the RCB skipper to take advantage of a suspect Chennai attack and if those scenarios all fall into place, it would lead to a profitable 40 overs.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Kohli 7.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), De Villiers 8.00 (Betway), Watson 9.00 (Betfair), Rayudu 10.00 (Betway), McCullum 10.00 (Betway), Dhoni 13.00 (Betway), Bravo 15.00 (Betway), Chahal 16.00 (Betway).
