While the Knight Riders always seemed set for a place in the last four, it’s something of a surprise to see Rajasthan still involved at this late stage of IPL 11. Ajinkya Rahane’s men made a late surge from the bottom of the table to claim fourth place but without Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, can a depleted team hang on and come through Wednesday’s eliminator?
It’s a very one-sided market coming into this game with KKR installed as hot favourites at odds of 1.50 with Betway while Rajasthan Royals are some way back at 2.62 with Betfair. The signs aren’t good for the Royals who have lost those two key players and, when we look at the group stages, Ajinkya Rahane’s men lost both matches between these two sides.
When you also factor in that Kolkata have home advantage with this game taking place at Eden Gardens then it’s hard not to agree with those odds. Rajasthan proved against RCB that they can win without Buttler but against a stronger Knight Riders team, the challenge may be too great.
Match Odds Summary: Kolkata Knight Riders 1.50 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Rajasthan Royals 2.62 (Betfair).
For KKR, Chris Lynn has enjoyed good form for much of the season and the Aussie is a natural favourite to top score in Wednesday’s game at 3.75 with Betway. Robin Uthappa has been less consistent but has found good touch of late and can be backed at 4.50 with Betway again.
Meanwhile, Sunil Narine’s pinch hitting has been surprisingly reliable and he will attract many punters at his price of 7.00 with Betway while Dinesh Karthik at 6.50 and Andre Russell at an excellent 17.00 – both with Betfair – are the most likely names among the remaining options.
Moving across to the Royals and with Jos Buttler out of the side, Ajinkya Rahane takes over as favourite to top score for his side at 3.50 with Betfair. Sanju Samson and D’Arcy Short are both available at 4.33 with Betfair while Rahul Tripathi, who played that match winning innings against RCB at the weekend, shortens quite considerably to 5.00 with Betway.
There may not be too much value in Rajasthan’s pricing but punters could consider Heinrich Klassen at 5.00 or even Jofra Archer at 13.00 – both with Betfair.
Our overall tip from these two markets is for Chris Lynn to top score for Kolkata. He’s another favourite but it’s been a positive campaign and he should enjoy being back on a familiar Eden Gardens surface.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Kolkata Knight Riders: Lynn 3.75 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Uthappa 4.50 (Betway), Karthik 6.50 (Betfair), Narine 7.00 (Betway), Russell 17.00 (Betfair).
Rajasthan Royals: Rahane 3.50 (Betfair), Samson 4.33 (Betfair), Tripathi 5.00, (Betway), Klassen 5.00 (Betfair), Archer 13.00 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
As we have tipped two favourites so far, we’ll see if we can find a longer-priced option for our final tip of the match. It could be a high scoring game and we’ve seen two totals over 200 by sides batting first at Eden Gardens so the 11.00 offered by Betfair on a first innings century may be of interest.
In general, markets have been very slow to come out after the weekend’s games so we will just finish with a bet that we rarely consider. Chris Lynn is such a key figure for KKR and we have faith in him to take advantage of a struggling Royals attack. As Man of the Match, there will be some takers for the Australian at 9.00 with Betfair but we’ll just back him to hit 50 or more with the bat at 3.75 with Betfair again.
Chris Lynn to Score 50 or More Odds Summary: Yes 3.75 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), No 1.22 (Betfair).
There are other batsmen primed to make contributions although we think Chris Lynn will be key. Overall, while shocks can and do still happen in the shortest form of the game, Rajasthan look a weak and thin side without their key imports and we expect the Knight Riders to take full advantage.
