*Odds as of April 8, 2018 – Odds Subject to Change
Both teams expected to be led out by Australian captains for their first game of IPL 11 but have the enforced changes made Sunrisers and Rajasthan weaker this year? SRH will hope that Alex Hales can be just as dominant at the top of the order while Heinrich Klassen is the man chosen to come into the Royals’ set up and it will be a fascinating 40 overs when these two face off on Monday.
We think there is little to choose between these two sides but the bookies have made Sunrisers Hyderabad the clear favourites with Kane Williamson’s men available at 1.75 with Betway. Anyone looking to take a punt on Rajasthan will therefore be looking at odds of 2.15 with Betfair.
Warner’s absence will mean that Williamson plays the whole tournament and that is a bonus at least. The Kiwi had been rested at times but along with Hales and Shikhar Dhawan that’s a powerful top order. They bat deep too with Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey available but we think that the Royals’ strong overseas roster of Stokes, Short, Buttler and Archer, plus Rahane and Tripathi can upset that market.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.75 (Betway), Rajasthan Royals 2.15 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick).
Warner was something of a banker for us in Sunrisers’ top batsman market but now he’s gone, Shikhar Dhawan starts as favourite to top score for Hyderabad at 3.75 with Betfair. Kane Williamson is on offer at 4.00 with Betway while Alex Hales at 4.50 with Betway and Manish Pandey at the same 4.50 with Betfair could provide the value in this one.
Further down the list, Wriddhiman Saha is at 8.00 and Carlos Brathwaite is a potential tempter at 17.00 – both with Betfair.
For Rajasthan Royals, Ajinkya Rahane is the favoured pick for most bookies but elsewhere there are joint favourites with Rahane at 4.00 with Betfair and D’Arcy Short also at 4.00 with Betway. Other options in this Royals squad include Jos Buttler at 5.00 with Betway, Sanju Samson at 5.50 with Betfair and Ben Stokes at 6.00 with Betfair again.
It’s tricky to identify a preferred tip from these two markets but while there is some good value around, Shikhar Dhawan has been profitable for us in international cricket so we’ll take the left hander at his shorter 3.75 price.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Dhawan 3.75 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Williamson 4.00 (Betway), Hales 4.50 (Betway), Pandey 4.50 (Betfair), Saha 8.00 (Betfair), Brathwaite 17.00 (Betfair).
Rajasthan Royals: Rahane 4.00 (Betfair), Short 4.00 (Betway), Buttler 5.00 (Betway), Samson 5.50 (Betfair), Stokes 6.00 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
As always there are lots of side bets for this game and if you think we’ll see a century scored in the match then Royal Panda have odds of 6.70 but if you think that ton will come on first innings, that increases to an excellent 12.00 with Betfair.
However, we’re crossing to the Sunrisers’ top bowler market where, in an impressive attack, Rashid Khan is favourite to return best figures at 3.50 with Betfair. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a regular pick for us on international duty and he looks tempting at 4.00 but we’re tipping Rashid for another star performance and another productive IPL.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Top Bowler Odds Summary: Rashid Khan 3.50 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4.00 (Betfair), Stanlake 4.33 (Betfair), Jordan 4.50 (Betfair), Thampi 4.50 (Betfair).
Those bowlers could have the key to this game and it’s tempting just to side with the favourites but, if Rajasthan’s batters are on top form the likes of Rahane, Buttler, Stokes and others should have enough to upset the market and deliver an opening win for the Royals.
