Two sides that enjoyed opening wins at this year’s IPL face off in Chennai on Tuesday and while few pundits gave either CSK or KKR much chance of winning the 2018 edition, there has been enough to suggest that both sides could go deep into the tournament.
We have the tightest result market of the season so far so let’s get straight on and see if we can pick some winners.
The bookies are finding it hard to split the teams but the Chennai Super Kings are widely regarded as favourites and go into this at odds of 1.85 with Betway. That leaves the Knight Riders as the marginal outside bet at 2.00 with Betfair.
The first three matches at IPL 11 have all gone with the chasing side so you may want to wait until the toss before committing but if pushed for an early tip then KKR were perhaps the most impressive of the two teams over the weekend. Chennai came home thanks in the main to a wondrous innings from Dwayne Bravo while the Knight Riders looked in more control as they eased past RCB.
It’s so tough to call but based on those opening matches, we’re giving KKR the nod.
Match Odds Summary: Chennai Super Kings 1.85 (Betway), Kolkata Knight Riders 2.00 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick).
The bookies have been very slow to list prices on Monday and more will come through in the lead up to the game but there is some value in the early odds. Betway are among the first to declare and they have Suresh Raina as favourite to top score for CSK at 3.60.
Shane Watson is available at 4.33 and then we have the pair of Kedar Jadhav and Ambati Rayudu at 5.00. MS Dhoni is short at that same price of 5.00 but Dwayne Bravo will attract interest after his brilliant match winning knock on Saturday. Bravo is available at an excellent 13.00 and once again, all of those prices are with Betway.
For the Knight Riders, Sunil Narine shortens after his efforts against RCB and can now be picked up at 6.00 with Betway but it’s Chris Lynn who starts things off here at 3.50. Robin Uthappa follows at 4.00 with Nitish Rana at 5.00 and Dinesh Karthik at 6.00. Andre Russell could be the value pick at 12.00 and all of those numbers are with Betway again.
For an overall tip, we’re looking at Robin Uthappa who is a steady player among the power hitters and over the course of these tournaments, he has always delivered consistent profits in the past.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Chennai Super Kings: Raina 3.60 (Betway), Watson 4.33 (Betway), Rayudu 5.00 (Betway), Jadhav 5.00 (Betway), Dhoni 5.00 (Betway), Bravo 13.00 (Betway).
Kolkata Knight Riders: Lynn 3.50 (Betway), Uthappa 4.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Rana 5.00 (Betway), Narine 6.00 (Betway), Karthik 6.00 (Betway), Russell 12.00 (Betway).
Other Side Bets
There is a good choice of side markets despite there being a fast turnaround at this stage of the tournament and we think there is potential for some good profits in CSK’s Top Bowler betting. Shane Watson would have given you the profit against Mumbai with 2/29 but he is one of the outsiders here at 7.00 with Betway.
Dwayne Bravo starts as favourite at 4.00 with Mark Wood, who was expensive on Saturday, available at 5.00; both with Betway. The Super Kings used seven bowlers against Mumbai so there is plenty of choice and there will be some interest in Ravi Jadeja at 7.50 but we’re opting for Imran Tahir. We think it’s a day for the spinners to thrive and the South African offers good value at generous odds of 6.00 with Betway again.
Chennai Super Kings Top Bowler Odds Summary: Bravo 4.00 (Betway), Wood 5.00 (Betway), Tahir 6.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Watson 7.00 (Betway), Jadeja 7.50 (Betway).
Chennai’s bowlers may hold the key to this game but KKR’s batting display against Bangalore makes them our pick although the toss could, once again, be vital on Tuesday.
