Two sides come into Tuesday’s match on a very poor run of form so while this isn’t exactly a must-win, Mumbai and the Sunrisers would be eager to get some confidence as they start an important week.
For the defending champions, the need for points is much greater as the Indians sit second from bottom with just one win. Who will prevail and take a much-needed step forward at the end of 40 overs?
Despite winning just one game from five and losing two from three at home, Mumbai find themselves as clear favourites and you can currently back Rohit Sharma’s men at 1.75 with Betway. That figure leaves SRH out at 2.10 with Betfair but shouldn’t this market be much closer?
The Sunrisers started their IPL 11 campaign with three wins from three while they have got reasonably close to chasing down big targets as they lost their last two. With Rashid Khan proving expensive and Shikhar Dhawan missing out through injury, Hyderabad suddenly look vulnerable and I expect Mumbai to wake up and take advantage knowing that this is such an important tie.
Match Odds Summary: Mumbai Indians: 1.75 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Sunrisers Hyderabad 2.10 (Betfair).
Suryakumar Lakmal has been the stand out batsman for Mumbai while Rohit made a big score against RCB but overall things have been disappointing at the top of the order. I wouldn’t be surprised if JP Duminy comes in for this match at the expense of Evin Lewis but for now, Rohit Sharma starts as favourite to top score against SRH at 3.75 with Betfair.
If you think that Lewis will stay in the side, Betway have odds of 4.00 against the West Indian’s name while Yadav looks a real tempter at 4.50 with Betway again. If Duminy comes in, Betfair have him way out at 9.00 right now while other Mumbai options include Ishan Kishan at 6.50 with Betfair, Krunal Pandya at 10.00 with Betfair and Hardik Pandya at 11.00 with Betfair again.
Moving across to the Sunrisers’ top batsman market and we have Shikhar Dhawan available as favourite at 3.50 with Betway. It would be worth checking on the left hander’s fitness before you back him or you could take Kane Williamson at a generous 4.20 with Betfair.
If Dhawan does miss out again, Hyderabad should be looking to bring in Alex Hales who is available at 4.50 with Betfair. Hales may prove to be a better replacement than Ricky Bhui who made a duck against Chennai or possibly they may restore Wriddhiman Saha to the top of the order. Against Mumbai, Saha is at 6.00 and Bhui is at 6.50, both with Betway or there will be interest in Manish Pandey at 6.50 with Betway again.
Our overall pick is Williamson as he’s more certain to play; he tends to maintain form when he finds it and 4.20 is a generous price.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Rohit 3.75 (Betfair), Lewis 4.00 (Betway), Yadav 4.50 (Betway), Kishan 6.50 (Betfair), Duminy 9.00 (Betfair), Krunal Pandya 10.00 (Betfair), Hardik Pandya 11.00 (Betfair).
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Dhawan 3.50 (Betway), Williamson 4.20 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Hales 4.50 (Betfair), Saha 6.00 (Betway), Bhui 6.50 (Betway), Pandey 6.50 (Betway).
Other Side Bets
While I think Mumbai should bring in Duminy for Lewis, a more likely change should see Mitch McClenaghan drop to the dugout with either Adam Milne or Ben Cutting coming in. McClenaghan was expensive against Rajasthan and the skipper looked frustrated as Ben Stokes dispatched a rank long-hop over the boundary.
It all makes for an interesting top bowler market for Mumbai and it’s one that is headed by Jasprit Bumrah at 4.50 with Betway and also Mustafizur Rahman who is at 4.50, this time with Betfair. Both men should certainly play and either could give you the profit here but while Mayank Markande has dipped after an impressive start, we’ve been impressed by the consistency of Krunal Pandya who is our pick at an excellent 6.00 with Betway.
Tight spin bowling should be one of many factors that help Mumbai claim their second win of IPL 11.
Mumbai Indians Top Bowler Odds Summary: Bumrah 4.50 (Betway), Rahman 4.50 (Betfair), McClenaghan 5.00 (Betfair), Milne 5.00 (Betfair), Markande 5.00 (Betfair) Krunal Pandya 6.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Hardik Pandya 11.00 (Betway).
