CSK blasted their way to the top of the table with a big win over Rajasthan on Friday night in a game that featured a century from Shane Watson against his former franchise. On Sunday, Chennai travel to Hyderabad to face a Sunrisers team who were previously on top of the league and remain in third place prior to Saturday’s round of fixtures.
With identical records of three wins from four, the sides appear well-matched but what do the bookmakers think?
We’ve a fairly tight market for this one and if there is any home advantage in T20 cricket it’s helped the Sunrisers Hyderabad slot in as favourites at 1.85 with Royal Panda. The Super Kings follow closely behind on 2.00 with Betfair and based on immediate form there could be some value in the marginal outsiders.
SRH never looked like getting close to Kings XI’s big total after Chris Gayle’s explosive ton, especially after Shikhar Dhawan was forced to retire. Dhawan’s potential absence could be a big blow for Sunday but Chennai, if they are at their best, should carry the momentum forward from Friday’s huge win and reclaim top spot.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: 1.85 (Betway), Chennai Super Kings 2.00 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick).
At the time of writing we’ve been unable to find any updates on Shikhar Dhawan but if you’re happy to back him 24 hours ahead, the left hander is available at 3.75 with Betfair to score most Sunrisers’ runs on Sunday. If Dhawan has to sit this out, Alex Hales could come in with one of the overseas bowlers dropping to the dugout. Hales can be picked up at 4.50 with Betfair while skipper Kane Williamson is shorter at 4.25 with Betway.
Other options for Hyderabad include Wriddhiman Saha at 5.00 with Betway, Manish Pandey at 6.00 with Betfair and possibly even Yusuf Pathan who gives an occasional profit in these top batter markets and can be claimed at a tempting 11.00 with Betfair again.
In Chennai’s version of the top batsman market, Shane Watson now leads things off after his ton on Friday and the Aussie is available at 4.00 with Betway. Suresh Raina came back from his injury ahead of schedule to make 46 and he is on offer at 5.00 with Betway while Ambati Rayudu slots between the two players at 4.75 with Betway again.
CSK’s value comes in the middle order where MS Dhoni and Sam Billings have both given top batsman profits this season. Against the Sunrisers, Dhoni is quoted at 7.50 and Billings at 6.00, both with Betfair.
Selecting a tip from those two teams is a tough call but Kane Williamson has been hitting form and the Kiwi tends to maintain big scores once he has found his touch.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Dhawan 3.75 (Betfair), Williamson 4.25 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Hales 4.50 (Betfair), Saha 5.00 (Betway), Pandey 6.00 (Betfair), Yusuf Pathan 11.00 (Betfair).
Chennai Super Kings: Watson 4.00 (Betway), Rayudu 4.75 (Betway), Raina 5.00 (Betway), Billings 6.00 (Betfair), Dhoni 7.50 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
We’ve now seen two hundreds at IPL 11 and if you think any player from either side will pass three figures on Sunday, Royal Panda are offering odds of 6.70. We’ll finish, however, with something different this time as we cross to the Man of the Match betting.
The Sunrisers’ pair of Rashid Khan and Shikhar Dhawan start as joint favourites at 9.00 with Betfair but the value is in CSK’s Dwayne Bravo at 11.00 with Betfair again. The West Indian’s death bowling has been as tight as ever and with a few runs thrown in, his all-round efforts could lead to a nice profit.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Rashid Khan 9.00 (Betfair), Dhawan 9.00 (Betfair), Watson 10.00 (Betfair), Bravo 11.00 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Raina 11.00 (Betfair), Williamson 11.00 (Betfair), Dhoni 13.00 (Betfair).
This will hopefully be one of the more entertaining matches of the tournament so far and it could go either way but the Super Kings, after two years away, look to be back to their best and I expect them to keep that momentum and take the points.
