Captain Rohit Sharma Fails Again But India Bounce Back With Win Over Bangladesh

It was important for India to win their second T20 match of the Nidahas Twenty20 Tri-Series in Colombo after losing their opening match to Sri Lanka. India won the toss and decided to field first and the bowlers did an excellent job in restricting Sri Lanka to a total of 140.

Young Guns Bounce Back

The Sri Lankans took the in-experienced bowling line-up to the cleaners in the first match. It looks like the young guns learned from their mistakes and quickly found their line and length against Bangladesh. J Unadkat bowled a great spelling picking up 3 wickets in his four overs while S Thakur, W Sundar and Y Chahal bowler very economical spells with restricted scoring and put the Sri Lankan batsmen under pressure. V Shankar picked up 2 crucial wickets sending down his 4 overs 32.

India could have applied more pressure on Sri Lanka had they taken all their catches. The fielding coach will need to work with these young players so ensure they catch and field better.

Rohit Sharma Fails Yet Again

The scene was set at Colombo for Rohit Sharma to walk in, find form and play a winners knock. However the stand-in Indian captain once again fell cheaply for 17 and his run of poor scores in all formats continue. This will be a worry for Sharma as he is supposed to lead from the front and helped his young squad out.

It was once again left to S Dhawan to steer the innings and form partnerships down the order. Dhawan scored another half century as his run of good form continues in the shorter formats of the game. R Pant was promoted to number 3 but failed with the bat. Raina chipped in with 28 and M Pandey remained unbeaten on 27 to take India home comfortably with 8 balls to spare.

V Shankar who is playing as an all-rounder was awarded the man of the match award. In a statement, Shankar said “I’ve been looking forward to this. Been working very hard and really happy to be winning this. I’ve been working hard on my bowling over the last few years and bowling is something that has given me something extra in my game. Playing with this team is a dream and everyone in the dressing room is very supportive.”

India will play their third T20 match against Sri Lanka on March 12 and will want to avenge their loss with a convincing win.
