India continued to maintain an incredible turnaround on this tour with another comfortable victory in Wednesday’s third ODI. With a 3-0 lead, Virat Kohli’s men cannot be beaten and one more victory will seal this series with two further 50 over games still to play.
We’re off to Johannesburg now with that fourth match taking place on Saturday and from rank outsiders at the start of the series, India become the hot favourites.
India can be picked up for their fourth straight win at odds of 1.57 with Betfair while the South Africans are available at 2.62 with Betway. Chasing 303 in Cape Town, there was a point when the home side might have felt confident of getting over the line. At 79/1 and with JP Duminy and Aiden Markram looking set, there may have been a chance but India’s spinners regained control and the new players in the middle order, Heinrich Klassen and Khaya Zondo, looked out of their depth.
There is a chance that AB De Villiers may be back for Johannesburg but as brilliant as he is, he’s not a one man team so with India playing far superior cricket, we have to side with the favourites.
Match Odds Summary: South Africa 2.62 (Betway), India 1.57 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick)
It was Virat Kohli who led the way in India’s innings and for once we got behind the skipper in his side’s top batsman market. For Saturday’s game, Kohli is on offer at 3.00 with Betway to do it again while Shikhar Dhawan, who made 76 at the top of the innings, can be picked up at 4.50 with Betway once again.
Elsewhere, Rohit Sharma has been a little disappointing for us but if you feel he’s about to return to form, Betway are offering 5.00 while Ajinkya Rahane is at 6.00. If the middle order are needed, MS Dhoni at 9.00 or Hardik Pandya at 15.00 could offer some value and once again, all of those figures are with Betway.
For South Africa, Duminy and Markram looked solid until the spinners took over but it’s Hashim Amla who starts as favourite to score most runs for the home side at 3.25 with Betway. If you’re confident that AB De Villiers will return then he comes in at 3.50 while their displays on Wednesday suggest that Aiden Markram and JP Duminy, both at 5.00, could give some value and all of those are with Betway again.
We’re waiting for Hashim Amla to hit form but while he would be our preference, Kohli’s brilliant touch has us staking on the skipper once more.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 3.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Dhawan 4.50 (Betway), Rohit Sharma 5.00 (Betway), Rahane 6.00 (Betway), Dhoni 9.00 (Betway), Pandya 15.00 (Betway).
South Africa: Amla 3.25 (Betway), De Villiers 3.50 (Betway), Markram 5.00 (Betway), Duminy 5.00 (Betway), Miller 5.50 (Betway).
Other Side Bets
We missed out on a top bowler profit in the last game and previous results suggest that we really shouldn’t look beyond the spinners. For Saturday’s match, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are joint favourites to return best figures for their side at 3.50 with Betway while Jasprit Bumrah is further back at 3.60 with Betway again.
Elsewhere, bookmakers have been a little slow to react to the third game but there are some better priced options. We have gone for the favourite for the opening two tips so forgive us if we do it again but experience shows that Virat Kohli gets in form and stays there. Another Man of the Match award could be coming his way in Johannesburg and that will give us a nice profit at 5.00 with Betway.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Kohli 5.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), De Villiers 7.00 (Betway), Amla, 9.00 (Betway), Rohit Sharma 9.50 (Betway), Dhawan 10.00 (Betway), Chahal 15.00 (Betway).
As for the result, if De Villiers is fit then he and Amla could guide South Africa to a win but there is so little depth in their batting. India’s in-form batters and spinners really should capitalise and make it 4-0 at the end of 100 overs.
