Sri Lanka’s battling performances on this tour had suggested that this short form series may be a tight one but India came through comfortably in the first game, recording their biggest ever victory in T20is.
It’s over to Indore now for Friday’s second game and after that crushing 93-run win, India’s position as favourites has naturally been cemented.
India’s win odds were short enough for that opening match in Cuttack and they are largely unchanged with Rohit Sharma’s men available at 1.30 with Betway. That leaves Sri Lanka as the outside punt once again at 3.57 with Royal Panda.
We tipped India to win that opener but hadn’t expected the tourists to fold quite so easily. Yuzvendra Chahal returned a special spell but as we had tipped a 2-1 series win for the home side, is there any hope now of that coming true?
Some quality remains in this Sri Lankan side but perhaps there are signs of fatigue after a long tour and while we’ll have to stay with our overall series prediction, an away win will have to wait until the final match on Sunday.
Match Odds Summary: India: 1.30 (Betway – Editor’s Pick) Sri Lanka: 3.57 (Royal Panda).
KL Rahul would have delivered the profit for some punters in Cuttack with 61 from 48 balls and the opener can be backed for Friday’s match at odds of 4.91 with Royal Panda to top score in the game. With less than 24 hours until the first ball is bowled in this game, the bookies have been very slow to respond to Wednesday’s result so at present all we have is that Top Match batter market.
Other options from an India perspective include Rohit Sharma who is the overall favourite at odds of 3.41 with Royal Panda while Shreyas Iyer is in good touch and available at 5.64 while Dinesh Karthik is quoted at 7.77 – both with Royal Panda again.
Meanwhile, the value comes lower down the order with Hardik Pandya at 22.00 and MS Dhoni at 28.00. Once again, those prices are with Royal Panda.
This overall top batsman market is not one that we often consider but with all due respect to Sri Lanka’s batters, India look the dominant force in this series and the prices here will be a little longer than those in the individual team markets.
Of course, there are options from a Sri Lankan point of view and you certainly can’t rule out Angelo Mathews at 9.50, Upul Tharanga at 6.36, Kusal Perera at 5.65 and Nuroshan Dickwella at 13.00 – all with Royal Panda. That price on Mathews looks particularly good but after Rohit came through for us with a profit in the second ODI, we’ll back the stand-in skipper to do the same in the second T20i.
Top Match Batsman Odds Summary: Indian Players: Sharma 3.41 (Royal Panda – Editor’s Pick), Rahul 4.91 (Royal Panda), Iyer 5.64 (Royal Panda), Karthik 7.77 (Royal Panda), Pandya 22.00 (Royal Panda), Dhoni 28.00 (Royal Panda).
Sri Lankan Players: Kusal Perera 5.65 (Royal Panda), Tharanga 6.36 (Royal Panda), Mathews 9.50 (Royal Panda), Dickwella 13.00 (Royal Panda).
Other Side Bets
That slow reaction from the bookmakers leaves us with some reduced options for Friday but there is still some value, particularly in the Man of the Match betting which has been quite good for us recently. With apologies for siding with favourites, we are behind Rohit to deliver a match winning score in this one so are getting behind him at 4.54 with Royal Panda. If you disagree, here is a list of other potential options.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Rohit Sharma 4.54 (Royal Panda – Editor’s Pick), Iyer 5.64 (Royal Panda), Rahul 6.36 (Royal Panda), Kusal Perera 12.50 (Royal Panda), Yuzvendra Chahal 9.84 (Royal Panda), Angelo Mathews 12.50 (Royal Panda), MS Dhoni 12.50 (Royal Panda).
India dominated in all departments in the first game of this series and while we expect Sri Lanka to perform better with the bat at least, the home side’s own batsmen should continue to score heavily and clinch the series in Indore on Friday.
