India is expected to recognize 100 special Indian women who have made a massive impact and achieved great success in industries that have been traditionally dominated by men. The Indian government has taken feedback from a number of ministers from the central government, state governments and media reports to compile a list of the top 100 women who have pioneered change in their respective industries.
Muskan Sethi To Be Honored In Nov
President Ram Nath Kovind is expected to recognize and award these 100 women sometime in November. An official schedule is expected to be released in the coming days and the Hindustan Times has confirmed that one of the women that will be honoured during the ceremony is female poker player Muskan Sethi.
Poker is very much a male dominated game throughout the world and it is only in recent times that female poker players are coming to the front. Female poker pros like Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree, Kathy Liebert and Vanessa Rousso have inspired poker players from all over the world as they have shown that they can compete with the best and come out on top.
Muskan Sethi has pioneered the way for female poker players in India by showing that one can be a successful female poker player. Her total career prize money at live poker events is just over $44,000 while her online poker earnings is over $114,000. She players under the screen name of ‘musku89’ and is currently ranked in 28th spot on PocketFives list of the top Indian poker players.
Sethi was thrilled to learn that her achievements in the poker world would soon receive national recognition. Poker is looked upon as a form of gambling in India and is generally banned in most states. However there has been a recent push from poker lobbyists in India to convince legislators that poker is a game of skill and not chance.
GPL Congratulates Sethi
The Global Poker League (GPL) believes that India will soon become one of the fastest growing poker markets in the world and has plans to launch the first edition of GPL India later this year. GPL India has signed Muskan Sethi to be the manager for its Delhi Diehards franchise.
In a statement, a representative of the GPL said “We’d like to send out our biggest congratulations to Muskan. Knowing the League has the honor of hosting a pioneer in women’s fight for equality in the workplace as one of its Team leaders is something we already take a lot of pride in.”
