India completed an emphatic 4-1 series victory in the recent ODIs and will be looking to carry that momentum forward into the first of three of three T20 internationals which takes place in Ranchi on Saturday.
Australia did start to become competitive towards the end of those ODI matches but the bookies have identified their clear favourite once again.
Bookmakers have been a little slow to confirm prices but from those that have declared, Bet365 are offering odds of 1.61 on an Indian victory. That leaves the Aussies as very definite outsiders at a price of 2.30 with Bet365 again.
The tourists’ squad is very similar to the One Day matches although we may see T20 specialists Dan Christian and Moises Henriques get involved. It’s a slightly improved line up while India’s is largely similar but on balance of quality, we’re going to side with the hosts for this game.
Match Odds Summary: India 1.61 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Australia 2.30 (Bet365).
Shikhar Dhawan is named in the squad after a break for personal reasons and the left hander becomes an option in India’s top batsman market at 4.50 with Bet365. Virat Kohli starts this game as favourite at a top price of 4.00 with Bet365 while Rohit Sharma joins Dhawan at that same figure of 4.50 – also with Bet365.
We’ve seen how devastating Hardik Pandya can be in any form of the game but T20 should really suit his power hitting. If he gets to the crease early, Pandya could be an option here at 7.00 with Bet365 while MS Dhoni may also provide some value at odds of 10.00 with Bet365 once again.
Moving across to Australia and we’re really looking at the top three of David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith. Warner found form at the end of that ODI series and starts as favourite here at best odds of 3.75 with Bet365 while Finch made a brilliant hundred in those matches and may be a better option at a top price of 4.33 with Bet365.
Skipper Smith is slightly further back at 4.50 with Bet365 once again and you could also consider Travis Head at 5.50 or Glenn Maxwell at 7.00 – both with Bet365.
Finch would be our preference here but from the two sets of markets, Dhawan has been in good form and very profitable for us so, assuming he comes back into the starting XI, he is our overall tip.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 4.00 (Bet365), Dhawan 4.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Sharma 4.50 (Bet365), Pandya 7.00 (Bet365), Dhoni 10.00 (Bet365).
Australia: Warner 3.75 (Bet365), Finch 4.33 (Bet365), Smith 4.50 (Bet365), Head 5.50 (Bet365), Maxwell 7.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
We like the century bet for ODIs and will very occasionally consider the option in the shorter, T20 format. For this match, you can get odds of 7.00 with Bet365 on any player from either side going past three figures and there could be some momentum carried across from ODI centurions such as Rohit Sharma and Aaron Finch.
We’re going to play a little safer however and back Australia to win the Most Sixes market as the marginal outside bet at 2.10 with Bet365. They have the power hitters to achieve this even if they do lose the game.
Most Sixes Odds Summary: India 2.00 (Bet365), Australia 2.10 (Bet365), The Tie (7.50).
The T20 format is the hardest to bet on and we do expect this to be a tight series. Australia should be much more competitive here and a series score of 2-1 to India looks good at 2.62 with Bet365. For now, we’re backing the home side to carry the momentum across from the ODIs and to take Saturday’s game.
