It’s been an exciting start to the series between these two sides and after the rain relented to give us a full game in Kolkata on Thursday, it’s now on to the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore for Sunday’s third ODI.
The series is set to go India’s way after two opening wins but can Australia keep things alive by turning their form around and claiming victory?
India remain favourites for this third match after closing out that second ODI with a comfortable win and you can currently back Virat Kohli’s side at best odds of 1.57 with Bet365. That figure leaves Steve Smith’s Australia as the outside option at 2.58 with Betfair but can they provide any value at that price?
The issue for the tourists has been with their batting and a brittle middle order that just isn’t supporting the batters higher up. David Warner and Steve Smith haven’t been firing either so either man could be due a big score and while this may not look a logical tip based on current form, India haven’t been at their absolute best either and a 100+ score from Smith or Warner, backed up by a little more support from the middle order can keep this series alive.
Match Odds Summary: India 1.57 (Bet365). Australia: 2.58 (BetFair – Editor’s Pick).
Ajinkya Rahane will presumably still cover for Shikhar Dhawan in Indore with the latter due to miss the first three games in this series. Having made 55 in the second game there appears to be no room for KL Rahul unless he comes in for Rohit Sharma who has struggled so far.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli remains joint favourite to top score for his side on Sunday and can be picked up at 3.75 with Bet365. Despite his struggles in those opening matches, Rohit is also on offer at 3.75 with Bet365 while Rahane is further back at 5.00 with Bet365.
The value once again comes from the middle order where MS Dhoni is priced at 8.50 and Hardik Pandya comes in at 13.00. Once again, those prices are with Bet365 and while they are tempting, we’re tipping Kohli to continue the form shown in Kolkata.
For Australia, it’s tight again between Smith and David Warner while Bet365 have Warner just ahead at odds of 3.75. Smith follows at a best price of 4.00 with Bet365 while Travis Head looked solid on Thursday before getting out to a Chahal full toss and he can be picked up at 6.00 with Bet365.
We’re favouring Smith for this one but Kohli is our overall tip for the two markets.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 3.75 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Sharma 3.75 (Bet365), Rahane 5.00 (Bet365), Dhoni 8.50 (Bet365), Pandya 13.00 (Bet365).
Australia: Warner 3.75 (Bet365), Smith 4.00 (Bet365), Head 6.00 (Bet365), Maxwell 6.50 (Bet365), Stoinis 12.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
Backing the individual century has usually been profitable whenever these two sides play and although it’s let us down so far, improving scores could make it an option at 1.66 with Bet365.
You could cross to the most sixes market where odds against prices give us some proper value. India are at 2.05 with Bet365 to record the most maximums and that’s much better than their win price so is worth a look. We’ll tip that as a form of ‘hedge’ to our result tip which is more of a gamble based on current form.
Most Sixes Odds Summary: India 2.05 (Bet365), Australia 2.10 (Bet365), The Tie 7.00 (Bet365).
As for the result, Australia’s recent record away from home isn’t offering too much hope of an away win and their struggling middle order is an obvious concern but we know that they can be a threat. It may need a huge score from Smith or Warner to justify our result tip but they are more than capable of producing it to keep this ODI series alive.
