Although we correctly saw a comfortable victory for India in the first ODI of this five match series, we also suggested that Sri Lanka might win a game along the way. Judging by the result in that fixture however, it seems that we may be wrong as it could be a long haul back for a Sri Lankan team that has been outplayed in every department in the last few weeks.
India carried over their dominant form from the test series and the bookmakers fully expect things to continue in Pallekelle on Thursday.
Virat Kohli’s men start the game as predictable favourites and the odds on a second Indian ODI victory currently stand at 1.20 with Bet365. If you think that Sri Lanka can turn it round and level the series at 1-1, you can get a price of 4.50 with Bet365 and Betfair but can they make that a reality?
There was little to suggest from the first game that the home side could threaten although they did get off to a decent start, putting on 74 for the first wicket. A lack of depth in the middle order offers little hope however and it’s hard to see where Sri Lanka can improve enough to trouble an Indian team of this quality.
Match Odds Summary: Sri Lanka 4.50 (Bet365). India 1.20 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick)
We enjoyed a clean sweep with all three of our bets landing last week and the longest odds came with Shikhar Dhawan who was a 4.50 shot to top score for India in Dambulla on Sunday. Having made that brilliant 132, the left hander can now be found at 3.75 with Bet365.
Virat Kohli stays as the joint favourite in this market at 3.75 with Bet365 again while you could consider Rohit Sharma, who has a surprisingly poor record against the Sri Lankans but might just offer some value at 4.00 with Bet365 and Betfair.
Further down the order, the value comes once again from Ajinkya Rahane at 5.50 with Bet365 and Betfair plus MS Dhoni at an excellent top price of 10.00 with Bet365 but will those two even get to the wicket?
For Sri Lanka, although Niroshan Dickwella wasn’t an official tip, we did suggest looking at the opener and having top scored last time out, he now comes in at odds of 4.50 with Bet365. Kusal Mendis would be our preference for this one at the same 4.50 with Bet365 while Danushka Gunathilaka and Angelo Mathews can both be picked up at 5.00, also with Bet365.
As for the overall tip, it’s very tempting to look at Dhawan again but while Kohli hasn’t been a successful punt for us recently, his 82 in the first game suggests he’s ready to deliver a profit.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sri Lanka: Dickwella 4.50 (Bet365), Mendis 4.50 (Bet365), Mathews 5.00 (Bet365), Gunathilaka 5.00 (Bet365).
India: Dhawan 3.75 (Bet365), Kohli 3.75 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Sharma 4.00 (Bet365), Rahane 5.50 (Bet365), Dhoni 10.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
Our third winning tip from the previous game came in the century market and when we move forward to Pallekele, we can now get odds of 1.66 on any batter from either side going past three figures. That looks a little short right now so perhaps we’ll go for a longer option and take a look at the Man of the Match betting.
We expect another batsman to dominate and while his team mates have been taking the plaudits lately, it’s surely time for Virat Kohli to dominate and give us a return at best odds of 7.00 with Bet365.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Kohli 7.00 (Bet365), Dhawan 8.00 (Bet365), Sharma 8.00 (Bet365), Pandya 15.00 (Bet365), Mathews 17.00 (Bet365), Malinga 17.00 (Bet365), Dhoni 19.00 (Bet365).
We’ll reserve our suggestion that Sri Lanka will win a game in this series for now; based on Sunday’s first game, it’s impossible to look beyond a dominant Indian team this Thursday.
