Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals Return to Indian Premier League

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) fans were happy to learn that their franchises are now officially back in the Indian Premier League. The two franchises were banned for a period of two years for their involvement in spot-fixing and match betting. As a result of being banned, CSK and RR team members were split-up and auctioned.

In a statement, Rajeev Shukla, IPL chairman said “It is my privilege to welcome back our franchisees, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, into the 11th edition of the IPL. We have had a strong working relationship with Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals and hope that we can continue to build upon the close ties that we have enjoyed in the past, as we move towards the next edition of the league.”

CSK Built On Loyalty

CSK is arguably the biggest brand in the IPL having won two IPL tournaments in 2010 and 2011. They were also the runners-up in four editions namely 2008, 2012, 20013 and 2015 and achieved all of this success under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The RR was the first IPL Champions back in 2008 when Shane Warne was the captain.

MS Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) last year under the leadership of Steven Smith. There were a number of rumors in the media that things were not right with RPS and MS Dhoni after he was stripped of the captaincy. CSK has made it clear that they are looking to bring back their core team and it all starts with MS Dhoni.

CSK management have gone on record to state that one of the reasons for their success was that they built their team around loyalty and wanted to continue the same going forward. They will also look to bring back coach Stephen Fleming who has formed a good partnership with Dhoni over the years.

MS Dhoni Shows Support For CSK

MS Dhoni has also made his intentions clear by posting a picture of himself with the CSK jersey and the words ‘Thala’ at the back. Thala means ‘leader’ in Tamil which is the local language spoken in Chennai. There are many fans in India who currently believe that MS Dhoni should retire given his recent form with the bat.

CSK will most likely keep Dhoni as the captain for one more season because CSK fans want captain marvel at the helm. RR has not made it clear if it will go after a new team or try to retain its core group like CSK.
