West Indies v India 2017 – 1st ODI Odds and Betting Preview

The fast paced nature of international cricket in 2017 means that India have no time to reflect on their ICC Champions Trophy Final loss. Instead, it’s quickly off to the West Indies for Virat Kohli’s men where they will play five ODIs and a solitary T20.

The first of the 50 over matches takes place in Port of Spain on Friday and while Rohit Sharma is the notable absentee from the squad, a strong Indian side remain hot favourites to take the first game.

Match Odds

India go into this first fixture at a general odds on price and can be picked up at 1.28 with Bet365 leaving the Windies to follow on at 3.75 with Bet365 once again.

With the West Indies absent from the Champions Trophy, we have fewer indicators in terms of their form but we know that once again, it’s a squad lacking many of their big names. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy are among those who are missing and while the likes of Shai Hope, Roston Chase and Jonathan Carter are all showing promise, a tough series beckons as part of their overall learning curve.

Match Odds Summary: West Indies: 3.75 (Bet365). India: 1.28 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick).

Top Batsmen

The West Indies batters showed some fight in their recent test series with Pakistan and there were some good displays from Hope and Chase with the bat. Wicket keeper Hope is favourite to top score for his side with most bookies and available at a top price of 5.00 with Bet365 while Evin Lewis is on offer at those same best odds of 5.00 with Bet365 again.

Jonathan Carter is a higher priced option but the name that stands out for us is that of Roston Chase. A more than useful middle order hitter, Chase now has three test hundreds to his name and while he has only played three ODIs to date, odds of 8.00 with Bet365 look exceptional.

For India, Rohit may have been rested but that gives a chance to Ajinkya Rahane who sat out the Champions Trophy having lost form in the IPL. Rahane is on offer for this first game at 4.50 with Bet365 while Virat Kohli starts as favourite at odds of 3.50 with Bet365 once again. Shikhar Dhawan enjoyed himself at the Champions Trophy and is our tip to continue his form at 4.00 with Bet365 while Yuvraj Singh at 7.50 and MS Dhoni at 9.00 continue to offer the value down the order. Once again, those two prices are with Bet365.

Dhawan is our overall tip but we’ll seriously look at a small stake on Roston Chase for the Windies.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: West Indies: Hope 5.00 (Bet365), Lewis 5.00 (Bet365), Carter 6.00 (Bet365), Chase 8.00 (Bet365).

India: Kohli 3.50 (Bet365), Dhawan 4.00 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Rahane 4.50 (Bet365), Yuvraj 7.50 (Bet365), Dhoni 9.00 (Bet365).

Other Side Bets

As always there is plenty to choose from here with India’s Top Bowler being a particular favourite of ours. Here, you can stick with our preference of Bhuvneshwar Kumar at 4.50 with Bet365 or go for the favourites, Ravi Jadeja at 3.75 or R Ashwin at 4.00 – also with Bet365.

For our final tip however, there is some value in the Most Sixes betting where India are the favourites to record most maximums at 1.76. That’s obvious but the West Indies have some power hitting and will go for the big blows even in a losing cause. At odds of 2.50 with Bet365, the Windies are worth a punt.

Most Sixes Odds Summary: West Indies 2.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), India 1.76 (Bet365), The Tie 7.00 (Bet365).

The result itself shouldn’t be in too much doubt even if India are away from home and they lost two of their five matches at the Champions Trophy. Kohli’s men showed that they can be susceptible when put under pressure but when you consider the comparative strengths of the two squads, India should be taking a series lead into Sunday’s second match.
