One by one the favourites dropped away as this tournament progressed to leave us with this thrilling tie. India beat Pakistan quite comfortably in their opening game but since then Sarfraz Ahmed’s team have improved considerably and certainly deserve their place in the final.
India have been at their best for much of this tournament although a loss to Sri Lanka in their second match proves they are not unbeatable but Virat Kohli’s men are way ahead in the markets in the lead up to Sunday’s game.
India are a heavy odds on with all bookmakers and are available at a best price of 1.50 with Betfair while Pakistan are considerably further back at 3.00 with Betway. Of course an upset can happen – Sarfraz’s men have been outsiders in their last three matches and won’t be at all concerned by that market.
The toss could also be important here with the last six games in this competition going to the side batting second and that could be a factor. India will also face a more potent attack than the one that Bangladesh produced in Thursday’s semi-final but, if both teams play to their strengths then you have to back an Indian victory.
Match Odds Summary: India 1.50 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Pakistan 3.00 (Betway).
India’s top three have all found form in this tournament and it will be tough to select between them in Sunday’s final. Virat Kohli leads the way after his unbeaten 96 against Bangladesh and the skipper is quoted at a top price of 3.75 with Betfair.
India’s profits have, however, been split evenly between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma in this tournament so far. Dhawan starts here at best odds of 4.33 with Betfair while Rohit is marginally shorter at 4.20 with Betfair again.
The greater threat carried by Pakistan’s bowlers could see the middle order exposed so you may see some value here in Yuvraj Singh at 7.50 with Bet365 or MS Dhoni at an excellent 10.00 with Bet365 once again.
In Pakistan’s version of the top batsman market, we have joint favourites with Azhar Ali at best odds of 4.50 with Betfair and Babar Azam at a top price of 4.50 with Bet365. There are plenty of options here with Fakhar Zaman at 5.00 with Bet365 and Betway while skipper Sarfraz provides the value down the order at a best of 10.00 with Bet365 and Betfair.
We’re expecting another strong showing from Azhar Ali but overall, our tip is Kohli for India as we look to the skipper to lead from the front.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 3.75 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Sharma 4.20 (Betfair), Dhawan 4.33 (Betfair), Yuvraj 7.50 (Bet365), Dhoni 10.00 (Bet365).
Pakistan: Ali 4.50 (Betfair), Azam 4.50 (Bet365), Zaman 5.00 (Bet365), Sarfraz Ahmed 10.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
We’ve been looking at India’s top bowling market throughout this tournament and have had some success with Bhuvneshwar Kumar both here, and also in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bhuvi claimed two victims against Bangladesh as wickets were shared around and he is joint favourite to return best Indian figures in the final at a top price of 4.50 with Betfair.
Jasprit Bumrah can also be backed at those same best odds of 4.50 with Bet365 while R Ashwin is the third to come in at that 4.50 figure with Bet365 again. One of the seamers should take this but for the final tip of the day, we’ll go back to the batting markets.
Having witnessed some seriously high scores in ODIs over the last 12 months, this tournament hasn’t been the run-fest that many were expecting but with two strong batting line ups, the individual century bet looks almost inevitable at odds of 1.72 with Bet365.
Will a Player Score a 100 Odds Summary: Yes 1.72 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), No 2.00 (Bet365).
We have gone for the favourites in these selected markets but these are games where your big players need to step up. As a straight comparison, India are the stronger team and while they should certainly prefer to chase, a second consecutive ICC Champions Trophy Title looks the more likely option.
