As the final group game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka progressed, it became apparent that India would be playing Bangladesh in Thursday’s second semi final and Virat Kolhi’s men will be confident of progressing to the final itself.
Bangladesh were undoubtedly impressive in their run chase against New Zealand and are heavy outsiders coming into this but they may just retain some hope, knowing that India are not unbeatable.
The prices in this result market will surprise no-one with India way out in front at odds of 1.22 with Betfair. They showed that they could be vulnerable against Sri Lanka but their two victories over Pakistan and South Africa suggested that the sole defeat was a minor blip and they should be back to their best for the remainder of the tournament.
As for Bangladesh, they are out at 4.50 with Bet365 but that victory over New Zealand could be a real turning point for them in World Cricket. Everyone expected them to fold at 33-4 but Shakib and Mahmudullah led their side to a famous win and proved that there is real depth and fight.
However, it remains their only win in the Champions Trophy and India’s overall form means that you can’t really see past the favourites.
Match Odds Summary: India 1.22 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Bangladesh 4.50 (Bet365).
Shikhar Dhawan is the form batsman and the tournament leading run scorer but the left hander starts here as third favourite at a top price of 4.33 with Bet365. Virat Kohli leads the way at 3.50 with Betfair while Rohit Sharma follows at odds of 4.00 with Bet365 and Betfair.
As always, the value from an Indian point of view is provided by Yuvraj Singh at 7.50 with Bet365 and MS Dhoni at 9.50 with Betfair. Having picked Dhawan in the first game where he was just edged out by Rohit, the opener has gone from strength to strength and while it’s tempting to pick him again, we just feel that Kohli is the man to see India home.
As for Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal was in supreme form prior to his duck against New Zealand but on the strength of his first two innings, the left hander remains favourite to top score for his side at best odds of 4.33 with Bet365. Imrul Kayes and Mushfiqur Rahim follow at a top price of 6.00 with Bet365 while the heroes from the win over the Kiwis give you the value here.
Shakib Al Hasan is on offer at 6.00 with Bet365 while Mahmudullah is way out at excellent best odds of 10.00 with Bet365 again. We’re backing both favourites across these markets – it’s obviously your choice but as Tamim carries a longer price of 4.33, he comes in as our overall tip.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 3.50 (Betfair), Dhawan 4.33 (Bet365), Rohit 4.00 (Bet365), Yuvraj 7.50 (Bet365), Dhoni 9.50 (Betfair).
Bangladesh: Tamim 4.33 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Shakib 6.00 (Bet365), Mushfiqur Rahim 6.00 (Bet365), Mahmudullah 10.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
The bookies have been a little slow to react to the result from the final group game so some of the more obscure side markets have yet to come in. We still have a decent choice and India’s top bowler market has given us some success in this tournament.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah start as joint favourites this time at 4.00 with either Bet365 or Betfair. R Aswhin is at 4.50 with Bet365 while Umesh Yadav may be seen as the value pick at 5.00 with Bet365.
Kumar would be our preference once again but for our final tip, we’ll back India in the Powerplay betting at 1.45 with Betway. It should be a comfortable win in this market and that price gives you a little more value than the 1.22 on offer for the result.
Highest First 15 Overs Odds Summary: India 1.45 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Bangladesh 3.00 (Bet365).
This Bangladesh team has been around for some time now and we may be about to see the best from them. For now, however, they may have to wait for the 2019 ODI World Cup as we expect India to just be too strong on the day.
