The two most impressive teams in the tournament so far meet in Kolkata on Saturday and although both are through to the next phase of the competition, the aim now is to finish in the top two and avoid what could be a longer route into next weekend’s final.
KKR and Mumbai have looked very evenly matched throughout IPL 10 so have we got a tight market on the eve of this fixture?
Betting is certainly close in the lead up to this game with the Knight Riders just ahead at odds of 1.85 with Betway while Mumbai can be picked up at 2.00 with both Bet365 and Betfair. Recent results suggest that Kolkata have the edge here and a win may well see them take top slot.
However, Mumbai have been more explosive and would have taken the points against Kings XI had it not been for a brilliant last over from Mohit Sharma. There’s really very little to split them so I’m just backing those Mumbai batters to hand the visitors the points.
Match Odds Summary: Kolkata Knight Riders 1.85 (Betway), Mumbai Indians 2.00 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick)
So who are the batters that can turn this game? Bookies are listing Lendl Simmons to score most runs for Mumbai on Saturday and the West Indian is on offer at a top price of 4.50 with Bet365 and Betway. Nitish Rana is next at best odds of 5.00 with Bet365 but you can also get Parthiv Patel at that same 5.00 with Betfair.
We’ve taken some profits on the dependable Rohit Sharma recently and you can get the skipper at 4.50 with Bet365 but I’m expecting Simmons to impress again.
For KKR, Chris Lynn has come back to give the batting more impetus at the top of the order and you can get the Aussie at a very short 3.25 with Bet365. Skipper Gautam Gambhir is next at 4.50 with Bet365 while Robin Uthappa has been good for us in this tournament and he is listed at 5.00 with Bet365 again.
Sunil Narine will get some backers at 6.00 with Bet365 but I’m favouring Lynn, even though that 3.25 price is a little too short to be really interesting.
Top Batsmen Odds Summary: Kolkata Knight Riders: Lynn 3.25 (Bet365), Gambhir 4.50 (Bet365), Uthappa 5.00 (Bet365), Narine 6.00 (Bet365).
Mumbai Indians: Simmons 4.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Rana 5.00 (Bet365), Patel 5.00 (Betfair), Rohit Sharma 4.50 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
Man of the Match betting is quite tempting for this one and the two key batters – Chris Lynn and Lendl Simmons – are the joint favourites but the prices look reasonable. Lynn is quoted at best odds of 8.00 with Betway while Simmons comes in at a top price of 11.00 with Bet365. It should be a game where batsmen dominate in what I’m expecting to be a high scoring affair so I’ll edge towards Lynn. It’s a form of insurance in case the first two tips don’t come in and will hopefully end with us making an overall profit.
There are alternatives of course and we’ve seen a lot of individual scores of 80, 90 and above recently so the century bet at best odds of 7.00 with Bet365 is an option but we’ll settle for Man of the Match.
Man of the Match Odds Summary: Lynn 8.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Simmons 11.00 (Bet365), Rohit Sharma 11.00 (Bet365), Narine 11.00 (Betway), Uthappa 12.00 (Betway), Gambhir 13.00 (Bet365).
Those prices tell you that the bookies are expecting a shoot out among the batsmen and I tend to agree. It should be a high scoring and entertaining match on Saturday and while this is tough to call, Mumbai Indians may have a very slight edge.
