Match 52 – Delhi Daredevils v Rising Pune Supergiant Preview

The Daredevils are gamely fighting on, despite the fact that it is now mathematically impossible for this side to make it through to the next phase of the tournament. Delhi have recorded some excellent wins batting second and they can certainly take the points again, particularly when you bear in mind that they won the reverse fixture against Pune.

The Supergiants themselves have much to play for and it’s in their interests to finish in the top two so where is this game going?

Match Odds

Despite their respective records in the groups, this is a fairly tight market with Pune the favourites at best odds of 1.83 with Betfair and the Daredevils relatively close behind at 2.00 with Bet365 and Betway.

The T20 format can be hard enough to call at any stage but Delhi are a team who have chased down high totals while recording 67 and 66 across this tournament. They are inconsistent but have a better record at home and they don’t look demoralised even though they are out of the competition.

It’s tough but I’m edging towards Pune as they are close to being a perfect side in the short form and should have enough quality to take the points.

Match Odds Summary: Delhi Daredevils 2.00 (Bet365) Rising Pune Supergiant 1.83 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick)

Top Batsmen

The late introduction of Marlon Samuels to the IPL was a positive move and, although the West Indian has that laid-back demeanour that suggests he doesn’t care, he has delivered consistent profits in this sort of market.

Samuels at 7.50 with Betfair is a value pick that is too good to turn down although you may feel that anyone out of Sanju Samson at 4.20 with Betfair, Karun Nair at 5.00 with Bet365 or the impressive Shreyas Iyer at a top price of 6.00 with Betfair may be safer.

For Pune, Steve Smith is out in front at best odds of 3.60 with Bet365 and while he’s not been the most dominant batter through this tournament, he has been the most consistent and would be my preference.

The one disappointment in this competition has been Ajinkya Rahane but if you feel a return to form is imminent then you can get 4.00 with Bet365 on the opener while Ben Stokes at an excellent 6.00 with Bet365 and Rahul Tripathi at 5.00 with Bet365 again are other options.

Top Batsman Odds Summary:  Delhi Daredevils: Samson 4.20 (Betfair), Nair 5.00 (Bet365), Iyer 6.00 (Betfair), Samuels 7.50 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick).

Rising Pune Supergiant: Smith 3.60 (Bet365), Rahane 4.00 (Bet365), Tripathi 5.00 (Bet365), Stokes 6.00 (Bet365).

Other Side Bets

Delhi have provided an unlikely source for high individual scores including Sanju Samson’s 100 so the odds of 7.00 with Bet365 on any batsman passing three figures in this match shouldn’t necessarily be ruled out.

But, even though the Daredevils are my tip to lose, their sudden change in form gives great value in other markets and you could take them at best odds of 1.91 with Betway to win the Powerplay but the better option is with most sixes where Delhi are the outsiders at a top price of 2.20 with Bet365.

Most Sixes Odds Summary: Rising Pune Supergiant: 2.00 (Betway), Delhi Daredevils 2.20 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), The Tie 7.00 (Betway).

We’ve seen that Delhi can also win the game and they seem to have got better since their elimination was likely and then subsequently confirmed. Although Samuels has done little so far, he does make their unit stronger but I have been really impressed with a Pune side that is an in-form Ajinkya Rahane away from being a perfect T20 side. Back the Supergiants for the win.
