Mumbai were the first team to qualify for the next phase of IPL 10 but the incentive for Rohit Sharma’s men is to keep winning and finish in the top two at the very least. Winning the groups will obviously send a message out to the rest of the sides but the minimum target is to make next Tuesday’s qualifier where the winning team will go straight through to the final.
For Kings XI Punjab, their season remains alive after another thrilling win, this time against the Knight Riders in Mohali. Glenn Maxwell’s men have to keep winning however and the bookies aren’t expecting them to take the points in Thursday’s match.
No surprises for guessing the bookmakers’ favourites with Mumbai Indians some way in front at 1.75 with Betfair for the win. That leaves KXIP as the outside punt and you can take the visitors at 2.10 with Bet365.
What is admirable about this Punjab side is their resilience and they’re showing a fight that we haven’t often seen from the franchise. Maxwell has proved to be a strong, if temperamental leader while Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma have been effective at the death and the late introduction of leg spinner Rahul Tewatia makes them even stronger.
Can they keep winning? Unfortunately I feel this Mumbai side is just too strong and while they had a poor game against Sunrisers last time out, that run won’t last.
Match Odds Summary: Mumbai Indians 1.75 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick) Kings XI Punjab 2.10 (Bet365).
That strength from Mumbai will presumably start with the batting and Lendl Simmons although it’s Jos Buttler who starts as favourite to top score for his side at a top price of 4.00 with Betfair. Simmons follows at best odds of 4.50 with Bet365 and you can also get 4.50 on Nitish Rana with Bet365 and Betfair.
Rohit Sharma gave us the profit last time out and you can take the skipper here at a best price of 5.00 with Betfair but I’m tipping Rana to come good on Thursday after a subdued run in recent games.
Moving across to Kings XI and we took another profit from their last game, this time with Glenn Maxwell who starts against Mumbai at a top price of 5.00 with Bet365 and Betfair. Hashim Amla is listed as the favourite at 3.30 with Betfair while Martin Guptill follows at best odds of 4.33 with Betfair again.
Manan Vohra at 5.50 with Betfair and Shaun Marsh at 4.50 with Betfair are other alternatives but I just feel we’re about to see how explosive Martin Guptill can be.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Mumbai Indians: Buttler 4.0 (Betfair), Simmons 4.50 (Bet365), Rana 4.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Rohit Sharma 5.00 (Betfair).
Kings XI Punjab: Guptill 4.33 (Betfair), Marsh 4.50 (Betfair), Maxwell 5.00 (Bet365), Vohra 5.50 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
There are a number of additional options here and the KXIP top bowler market looks particularly interesting with Tewatia in the side. The leg spinner is out at 5.00 with Betfair while I’m edging towards the favourite and the impressive Sandeep Sharma at best odds of 4.00 with Bet365.
However, we’ll finish with the most sixes market which is a bet that Kings XI can deliver on even if they lose the game itself. Mumbai are some way in front here at 1.85 with Bet365 leaving KXIP as a great value option at 2.37 with Bet365 again.
Most Sixes Odds Summary: Mumbai Indians 1.85 (Bet365), Kings XI Punjab 2.37 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), the Tie 6.50 (Bet365).
As for the game itself, Kings XI have the power in their batting and this year they have found that their bowling can keep things tight but Mumbai won’t be out of touch for too long and they need to keep that top spot. Back Mumbai Indians for the win in this one.
