Match 46 – Royal Challengers Bangalore v Kolkata Knight Riders Preview

It’s all over for RCB: It had already been a dismal season which would end outside of the play off places but in failing to chase down KXIP’s 138, it showed just how far the side has slipped. When Kohli, Gayle and De Villiers aren’t making runs then they just don’t win and that’s been their issue this season.

Could the Royal Challengers lift themselves for one last time as they host KKR? The Knight Riders are closing in on their own knockout place but the potential of RCB makes this a tight market.

Match Odds

For once, Bangalore don’t start a game as favourites and Kohli’s men can be picked up at best odds of 2.10 with Bet365. If you’re looking to back the Knight Riders, the top price here is 1.90 with Betfair.

Most of us had expected RCB to make one of their traditional late surges after Kohli and De Villiers came back into the side following injury. It hasn’t happened however and I suspect it may be down to a lack of confidence after posting that record low total of 49.

One issue to take into account is that the weather forecast for Bangalore suggests there may be some rain around so I’ll wait for the toss before committing any money but somehow I still have faith that RCB have one big performance left in them.

Match Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore 2.10 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Kolkata Knight Riders 1.90 (Betfair).

Top Batsmen

We always expect Virat Kohli to start a game as favourite but after a modest campaign should he be as short as 3.25 with Bet365 and Betway? The skipper is ahead of AB De Villiers at a top price of 4.33 with Betfair, Chris Gayle at a best of 5.00 with Betfair and Mandeep Singh at 5.50 with Bet365.

All of those give better value than the skipper but if the Royal Challengers are to make my match tip land, it will probably need Kohli to make a really big score.

For Kolkata, the tip here is Robin Uthappa who is available at a best of 4.00 with Betway. It can often be a case of deciding between Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir who starts as favourite at 3.75 with Betfair but I’m backing the second favourite as I just feel he’s due to convert again.

Other options for this bet are Manish Pandey at a top price of 6.00 with Bet365, Sunil Narine at 7.00 with Betway and Yusuf Pathan at 9.00 with Bet365.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore: Kohli 3.25 (Bet365), De Villiers 4.33 (BetFair), Gayle 4.80 (Betfair), Singh 5.50 (Bet365).

Kolkata Knight Riders: Gambhir 3.75 (Betfair), Uthappa 4.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Pandey 6.00 (Bet365), Narine 7.00 (Betway), Pathan 9.00 (Bet365).

Other Side Bets

I am very tempted by the century bet where Bet365 are quoting 7.00 on any batsman from either side going past three figures in this match. That may sound ridiculous when you consider RCB’s recent form but I’m hoping for an act of defiance and a big score in a big win.

However, the final bet is in the Powerplay where the Knight Riders are favourites to be ahead at the end of the first six overs at 1.91 with Betway. Because RCB are the outside bet for the win, there is some value in a number of these markets so I’m backing them again here at a top price of 2.00 with Bet365.

Highest First Six Overs Odds Summary: Kolkata Knight Riders 1.91 (Betway), Royal Challengers Bangalore 2.00 (Bet365 – Editor’s Tip).

The Royal Challengers have embarrassed me before at IPL 10 but I still believe that Kohli and co can turn it on at least once and beat a team with style, even if it’s one as competent as KKR.
