Match 44 – Sunrisers Hyderabad v Rising Pune Supergiant Preview

The Sunrisers’ poor away form continued with defeat to bottom of the table Delhi so it’s a welcome return to Hyderabad where David Warner’s men have a 100% record. That record will be tested against Pune on Saturday and a win would be more than useful as they look to pull away and increase their lead over Kings XI in fifth.

As for the Supergiants, victory over KKR on Wednesday leaves them in third place and despite Sunrisers turning Hyderabad into a fortress this year, the teams look evenly matched.

Match Odds

Pune have impressed by getting across the line in tight finishes and that’s why no-one will write off Steve Smith’s side this weekend. That home record helps Sunrisers confirm their place as favourites however and you can currently back the hosts at 1.75 with Betway.

Rising Pune Supergiant are behind at 2.15 with Betfair so should we merely back that home record? Pune’s resilience has seen them take a comfortable position in the top four and it was first shown against the Sunrisers when MS Dhoni led the chase. The toss could be vital here and while I’m edging towards the Sunrisers, Pune’s overall record suggests you should bet with the chasing side for this one.

Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.75 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Rising Pune Supergiant 2.15 (Betfair).

Top Batsmen

Yuvrav Singh took the profits in this market for the Sunrisers last time out but it’s the skipper David Warner who keeps his favourite’s slot at a top price of 2.87 with Bet365. Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan are both at 4.50 with Betfair while Yuvraj shortens now to 6.00 with Betfair again.

The plan of backing Warner right through the tournament is slightly down on profit right now but I would keep faith with the captain for this game at least. However, the better value, and the pick comes from Pune’s version of this market.

Steve Smith starts the list and the skipper can be taken here at odds of 3.60 with Betfair. Having top scored in back to back games recently, I’ll be sticking with Smith although Rahul Tripathi’s brilliant knock against the Knight Riders makes him a tempting option at 5.50 with Bet365 again.

For the Supergiants, you could also consider Ben Stokes at 6.00 with Bet365 or MS Dhoni at 8.50 with Bet365 but after a couple of subdued games, Steve Smith is due.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Warner 2.87 (Bet365), Dhawan 4.50 (Betfair), Williamson 4.50 (Betfair), Yuvraj 6.00 (Betfair).

Rising Pune Supergiant: Smith 3.60 (Bet365), Tripathi 5.50 (Bet365), Stokes 6.00 (Bet365), Dhoni 8.50 (Bet365).

Other Side Bets

Throughout IPL 10, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has given us some good profits in the Sunrisers’ top bowler market but, after consistently being priced at around the 4.00 mark, the seamer looks a little short now at 3.40 with Bet365.

Therefore, our final tip comes in the most sixes betting where I’m a little surprised to see the Sunrisers as clear favourites to record more maximums at a top price of 1.90 with Bet365. Yes, they have Warner, Dhawan and Williamson but I’d rather back Pune with Tripathi, Dhoni and Stokes at a generous best figure of 2.30 with Betfair.

Most Sixes Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.90 (Bet365), Rising Pune Supergiant 2.30 (Betfair), the Tie 7.50 (Bet365).

This is such a tough one to call and it’s another game that I’m not backing with any great confidence. Personally, I feel that the game should go to the chasing side so I won’t be placing any money on the outcome until I see which way the coin lands.

Sunrisers should have the slight edge but recent results suggest that it’s advisable to wait for the toss before making a call.
