Match 12 – Royal Challengers Bangalore v Mumbai Indians Preview

The news that RCB fans would have been desperate to hear has been confirmed with reports that Virat Kohli has been declared match fit and ready to play in Friday’s crucial game. With AB De Villiers also restored, the Royal Challengers are back to full strength but they will need to be at their best when they host an impressive Mumbai side who have won two from three.

Match Odds

It’s a tight match result market but with home advantage and Kohli back in the team, RCB are the obvious favourites at an industry best of 1.85 with Betfair. Meanwhile, Mumbai are not far behind at 2.10 with Bet365.

It would appear, from the opening exchanges that Bangalore need their skipper to fire straight away and that is likely to be the key to this match. Against Kings XI last time out, De Villiers made a brilliant 89 but the next highest score was 28 and a total of 148 wasn’t going to trouble an improved KXIP.

If Kohli bats big and gets support from AB, then the Royal Challengers will win this but I feel that Mumbai have the edge and the early wicket of the opposing skipper will turn the game in their favour.

Match Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore 1.85 (Betfair), Mumbai Indians 2.10 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick)

Top Batsman

Needless to say, Virat Kohli has gone straight to the top of Royal Challengers’ betting for this one and can be backed at 3.50 with Bet365 to score the most runs for his team. De Villiers follows on at a best price of 3.75 with Bet365 while Chris Gayle is at 4.50 with Betfair.

The battle is usually between those three but there are other options with Shane Watson at 5.00 with Bet365 and Mandeep Singh at an excellent 8.00 with Betfair but this time I think AB will edge it.

Moving across to Mumbai and Rohit Sharma has been eased off his favourites’ perch by Jos Buttler who goes off at 4.00 with Bet365. Rohit himself is on offer at odds of 4.20 with Betfair while Nitish Rana, who has top scored in his last two games, has shortened now to a price of 6.00 with Betfair again.

Other options include Jitesh Sharma at 5.50 with Bet365 and Parthiv Patel at 5.00 with Bet365 but I’m expecting Rohit to find form in this one.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore: Kohli 3.50 (Bet365), De Villiers 3.75 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Gayle 4.50 (Betfair)

Mumbai Indians: Buttler 4.00 (Bet365), Rohit Sharma 4.20 (Betfair), Rana 6.00 (Betfair)

Other Side Bets

We knew that a century would be coming soon at IPL 10 but few of us would have guessed that Sanju Samson would have been the man to deliver it. With the first ton out of the way, the price on any batsman scoring three figures in this match is quite short at 7.00 with Bet365.

That may be considering with Kohli and De Villiers back but for the final tip of this game, we’ll look at a slightly more obvious market. Total sixes is quoted by Betfair using 15.5 as the line and you can go under that at 1.90 or over at 1.80.

While nothing is certain, this Bangalore surface is one of the fastest around and with both teams having all their big hitters, with the possible exception of Gayle, I would go over at 1.80.

Total Sixes Odds Summary: Under 15.5 1.90 (Betfair), Over 15.5 1.80 (Betfair – editor’s pick).

As for the match result, I think this comes down to two key wickets. Mumbai’s bowling has been pretty impressive so far and I just feel they can get AB and Kohli cheaply to allow their batters to hunt down their third win of IPL 10.
