The Sunrisers are two from two while Mumbai were seriously impressive in chasing down 178 to beat KKR on Sunday and even at this early stage of IPL10, the two teams are looking like good bets for the top four. One side has to lose on Wednesday but the bookmakers are struggling to identify a clear winner here.
Perhaps not surprisingly, most bookies are quoting the same odds for both teams with 1.91 available with Betway for the Sunrisers and also for Mumbai. They’ve been impressive in their opening two games but we have to pick a winner so who is it going to be?
The toss would appear to be crucial here and David Warner said to Ravi Shastri after the Gujarat Lions match that he was grateful to have won it. Teams like to chase and although the Sunrisers themselves posted 207 against RCB, Mumbai took down that Knight Riders total and they may also prefer to take second knock.
Mumbai have shown that they can chase down much bigger totals but I’m favouring the Sunrisers’ seamers, plus the excellent Rashid Khan to keep the Indians in check. I may keep my own money safe until that coin lands but the home side’s bowling attack holds the key to the game.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.91 (Betway – Editor’s Pick) Mumbai Indians 1.91 (Betway).
In 2016 you would have taken regular profits on David Warner through the season and the captain delivered again with an unbeaten 76 against Gujarat. We were lucky enough to get odds of 3.60 on Warner for that game and while he may not be that long again, there’s no reason to change a winning formula and we’ll take him at a best of 2.87 with Bet365.
Other options through this team are Moises Henriques, who has two half centuries in his first two games and is quoted at 5.00 with Bet365 or Shikhar Dhawan at 4.50 with Bet365 again.
You may get some better value by focusing on the Mumbai version of this market and here we have Rohit Sharma as a longer priced favourite at 4.00 with Bet365. Jos Buttler follows at odds of 4.50 with Bet365 while Parthiv Patel comes in at a price of 5.00 with Bet365 once again.
Meanwhile, the man whose 50 helped see the Indians home against KKR, Nitish Rana, has to be a value pick at a best price of 5.00 – also with Bet365 – but our preferred pick is Rohit who is rarely out of touch for too long and will eventually deliver in this market.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad: Warner 2.87 (Bet365 – editor’s pick), Dhawan 4.50 (Bet365), Henriques 5.00 (Bet365)
Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma 4.00 (Bet365), Jos Buttler 4.50 (Bet365), Parthiv Patel 5.00 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
Sunriser’s top bowler market looks interesting with three players all listed at 4.33 with Bet365. Ashish Nehra, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can all be picked up at that price and while Rashid will get a lot of interest following his performance against the Lions, Kumar was the leading wicket taker at IPL9 and is due a decent haul himself.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Top Bowler Odds Summary: Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4.33 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Rashid Khan 4.33 (Bet365), Ashish Nehra 4.33 (Bet365).
And that is where we feel the game will be won on Wednesday. The toss is absolutely important as we said and even though Sunrisers are away from their home surface, we feel that they will still want to chase rather than allow Mumbai the possibility to hunt down another big total.
The sides look very evenly matched but that excellent Sunrisers bowling attack should come through and deliver a third straight win.
