Persistent rain in Bangalore robbed the Sunrisers of the chance to end their run of poor performances on the road and overcome a struggling RCB side. The point gained from that washout keeps David Warner’s men in the top four but they have played a game more than the two teams below them.
Among the chasing pack are Kings XI Punjab and that may surprise some pundits. KXIP have had a mixed start and many of us felt that they were destined for another poor tournament but a win here, in Friday’s match, will give them every chance of making it to the knockouts.
You may well think that the Sunrisers have by far the stronger of the two sides and I’d be inclined to agree with you but their poor form away from home makes this a very tight result market. Hyderabad lead the way at odds of 1.83 with Betfair for the win while Kings XI Punjab are the narrow outside bet at 2.05 with Betway.
Can you overlook that run that has seen the Sunrisers lose three games away from home while winning all four in Hyderabad? It’s hard to dismiss it but it surely has to end sometime and at a price of 1.83, a strong side led by Warner actually looks to offer some decent value.
Match Odds Summary: Kings XI Punjab 2.05 (Betway), Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.83 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick).
We all know that Glenn Maxwell can be a destructive batsman but the Australian has seemingly decided just to hit the ball as hard and as far as possible from his very first delivery. It’s a strategy that comes in response to KXIP’s mixed start and it’s paid off to some extent and Maxwell starts here at 4.50 with Bet365 to score most runs for his team on Friday.
There are some bookmakers still to declare for this bet but strong prices are already here in a market where Hashim Amla starts things off at best odds of 4.00 with Bet365. The South African is in great touch and after making that brilliant 104 against Mumbai, Amla also top scored in the next game against Gujarat.
Other picks here include David Miller at 4.90 with Bet365 and the recalled Shaun Marsh at 4.50 with Bet365 again but if Maxwell can just stay at the crease for something approaching 10 overs then he will score quickly enough to take this market with some ease.
Moving along to the Sunrisers and I’m trying to keep faith with David Warner even if it hasn’t been quite such a prolific year for the left hander so far. The skipper may look a little too short for many at his price of 3.00 with Bet365 while Shikhar Dhawan is potentially a much better option this time around at 4.50 with Bet365 again.
Kane Williamson is quoted at that same 4.50 with Bet365 while Yuvraj Singh is the value outsider at 6.50 with Bet365 again. I would try Warner again but odds of 3.00 aren’t great considering he’s yet to match his best form of 2016.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Kings XI Punjab: Amla 4.00 (Bet365), Maxwell 4.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Marsh 4.50 (Bet365), Miller 4.90 (Bet365).
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Warner 3.00 (Bet365), Dhawan 4.50 (Bet365), Williamson 4.50 (Bet365), Yuvraj 6.50 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
Kings XI Punjab may not win this game but they should at least get off to a fast start and that gives some value in the Powerplay betting. KXIP are outsiders at 2.00 with Bet365 to the Sunrisers’ 1.80 with Bet365 and although Amla isn’t always seen as an expansive T20 hitter, those around him should see Kings XI give you the profit.
Highest First Six Overs Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.80 (Bet365), Kings XI Punjab 2.00 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick).
As for the game, Kings are a threat if their power hitters all fire but Sunrisers’ bowlers should have the edge and deliver a first away win of IPL10.
