Tuesday’s abandoned game will be of little help to either the Royal Challengers or the Sunrisers but for RCB, it means they simply must start winning if they hope to be in the top four at the end of the groups. The good news at least is that the point they earned from that washout takes them off the bottom and next up is struggling Gujarat who have taken RCB’s place at the foot of the table.
Neither team has exactly set the tournament alight but the Royal Challengers go into this as clear favourites at odds of 1.61 with Bet365 and Betfair to take the points. The Lions, meanwhile, have two wins from seven and are therefore the outside bet at 2.30 with Bet365 and Betway.
Had RCB played on Tuesday then we would have known how they responded to that record IPL low of 49 at the weekend but we’re guessing to an extent. Gujarat have been poor but I expected Bangalore to bounce back against the Sunrisers and I’ll stick with that option although odds of 1.61 are uncomfortably low.
Match Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore: 1.61 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Gujarat Lions 2.30 (Bet365).
Despite not reaching the crease on Tuesday, Virat Kohli has somehow shortened in RCB’s top batsman market and is now on offer at best odds of 3.00 with Betway and Betfair. AB De Villiers comes in at 4.00 with Bet365 as does Chris Gayle, who can be claimed at that 4.00 price with Bet365 and Betfair.
We’re never quite sure as to how the Royal Challengers will juggle their overseas players but there is some value in the domestic outside bets of Mandeep Singh at 8.00 with Betway and Kedar Jadhav at an excellent top price of 9.50 with Betfair.
Kohli would be my tip here once again but for better value, we’ll head across to Gujarat Lions where Brendon McCullum starts things off at best odds of 4.00 with Betway. We haven’t seen the best of Jason Roy yet and the Englishman might not attract too much interest at 4.50 with Bet365 while a better option would be Suresh Raina at that same 4.50 with Betway.
Other options here could include Dinesh Karthik at a top price of 7.50 with Bet365 but Raina has given us a profit already at IPL 10 and I expect the skipper’s batting to stay strong while the rest of his side are struggling.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore: Kohli 3.00 (Betway), de Villiers 4.00 (Bet365), Gayle 4.00 (Bet365), Jadhav 9.50 (Betfair)
Gujarat Lions: McCullum 4.00 (Betway), Roy 4.50 (Bet365), Raina 4.50 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Karthik 7.50 (Bet365).
Other Side Bets
The only positives to come from that defeat to the Knight Riders last time out came from RCB’s bowlers and in particular, Yuzvendra Chahal and Tymal Mills. Left arm paceman Mills is just starting to show why the Royal Challengers paid so much money for him while Chahal is returning to his 2016 form and that is vital for Bangalore if they are to make it out of the groups.
The final tip therefore is in RCB’s top bowler market where Chahal is the best option at a decent top price of 4.50 with Betway. Mills can also be taken at that same 4.50 with Betway while Samuel Badree starts off as the favourite at a best of 4.33 with Betfair.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Top Bowler Odds Summary: Badree 4.33 (Betfair), Chahal 4.50 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Mills 4.50 (Betway).
Those bowlers hold the key as it’s hard to see Royal Challengers Bangalore being so poor with the bat twice in a row. Expect a much better performance from Kohli, Gayle and co while the likes of Chahal and Mills should keep things tight enough for RCB to take the points.
