I’d been looking at Delhi to finish at the bottom of the table after a poor auction was followed by injuries to two of their best players. Quinton De Kock and JP Duminy may be missing but the Daredevils have won two from three and are currently sitting in the top four.
KKR, meanwhile, are at the top of the pile with three wins from four so who will consolidate their position at the end of 40 overs on Monday?
It’s actually a very tight result market going into this one with most bookmakers quoting the same win odds for both teams. That’s underlined by Betway who have a price of 1.91 on Delhi and that same, 1.91 figure on the Knight Riders.
That reflects current form so how do you split these teams to find a winner? Personally I think you have to take the Daredevils’ wins in context: the first of those was driven by a brilliant century from Sanju Samson – an innings that he may not repeat again while the second was over a struggling Kings XI side.
There is a threat from the likes of Sam Billings, Chris Morris and Rishabh Pant but I just feel that Kolkata have the stronger squad and should be taking the points on Monday.
Match Odds Summary: Delhi Daredevils 1.91 (Betway), Kolkata Knight Riders 1.91 (Betway – Editor’s Pick)
KKR’s strength begins with their batting and it’s good to see Robin Uthappa back in the runs. I would like to see the established opening pair of Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir back together but they are split by Sunil Narine and it’s not really hurting the Knight Riders right now.
Coming back to this top batsman market and Gambhir starts as favourite to score most runs for his side at 3.60 with Betway. Uthappa follows at 4.50 with Betfair while Manish Pandey has already delivered on this bet in the tournament and is on offer at 5.50 with Bet365.
You can take Narine at 7.00 with Betway but I think this is a game for the established batters with Gambhir being my punt.
For the Daredevils, I like the look of Sam Billings’ price of 4.20 with Betfair. The Englishman has been steady rather than spectacular but his half century against Kings XI suggests he’s finding touch and he will typically stay in form.
Other options include Samson at 4.00 with Bet365 and Pant at an excellent 7.00 with Betfair but I think that Billings will follow up with a second strong contribution.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Delhi Daredevils Gambhir 3.60 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Uthappa 4.50 (Betfair), Pandey 5.50 (Bet365)
Kolkata Knight Riders Billings 4.20 (Betfair), Samson 4.00 (Bet365), Pant 7.00 (Betfair).
Other Side Bets
It will be pleasing for Knight Riders’ fans to see Sunil Narine bowling so well but while his economy rate is seriously impressive, he’s not claiming quite so many victims as his team mates. That leaves us with some great value in KKR’s top bowling market where Narine starts as favourite at 3.50 with Bet365.
A trio of bowlers are at 5.00 with Betway including Trent Boult and Umesh Yadav. Boult is out of touch right now while Yadav impressed with 4/33 against Kings XI but Chris Woakes would have given you the profit in the match versus Sunrisers and he should continue to build from that performance.
Kolkata Knight Riders Top Bowler Odds Summary: Narine 3.50 (Bet365), Umesh Yadav 5.00 (Betway), Boult 5.00 (Betway), Woakes 5.00 (Betway – Editor’s Pick)
As for the result, it could be as tight as the market suggests but as impressive as Delhi have been, I think that the loss of Duminy and De Kock will tell eventually and I feel that KKR’s greater quality squad will take the points from this match.
