We’ve already seen the Sunrisers make a strong start to their defence of the IPL trophy and they could be the team to beat once again as the tournament develops. Last year, they could be a little too reliant on David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order but Yuvraj Singh and Moises Henriques proved on Wednesday that there is depth.
Gujarat Lions posted a reasonable total of 183 against KKR but were outdone by Chris Lynn’s blistering 93 from 41 balls. Innings such as that will win most games but Suresh Raina’s men have the talent to go beyond that sort of total and push towards 200.
The respective results of those opening games are reflected in the Match Odds where the Sunrisers are favourites at an industry best of 1.80 with Betfair. Anyone looking to back the Lions can currently get odds of 2.10 with Bet365 and Betway.
When you have a side containing Jason Roy, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina and Aaron Finch you should be winning enough games to get into the top four but the concern for Gujarat is the loss of key bowlers Dwayne Bravo and Ravi Jadeja. With a weakened attack going into this match, I’m backing Sunrisers’ batters to take full advantage.
Match Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 1.80 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Gujarat Lions 2.10 (Bet365).
There are plenty of contenders with two exceptional top orders in both camps but I have my favourites and I’m going to stick with them. At IPL 9, you would have taken a decent profit by backing David Warner in every match and the Captain is the first pick at best odds of 3.60 with Betfair.
Options here include Shikhar Dhawan at 4.00 with Bet365 and Betfair or Wednesday’s hero – Yuvraj Singh at 6.00 with Bet365 again but Warner has the consistency to deliver across the tournament.
For Gujarat, Aaron Finch top scored in their first three games in IPL cricket so I was disappointed to see the Australian shunted down the order against KKR. McCullum and Raina start the game as joint favourites at 3.75 with Bet365 while Jason Roy looks a value option at 4.50 with Bet365 but I’ll keep faith with Finch at 4.50 – also with Bet365.
Top Batsman Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner, 3.60 (Betfair – Editor’s Pick), Shikhar Dhawan 4.00 (Bet365), Yuvraj Singh 6.00 (Bet365).
Gujarat Lions: Brendon McCullum 3.75 (Bet365), Suresh Raina 3.75 (Bet365), Jason Roy 4.50 (Bet365), Aaron Finch 4.50 (Bet365).
We came close to seeing the first century of IPL 10 with Chris Lynn closing in on three figures on Friday. With two explosive batting sides here, this could be a bet to consider at odds of 7.50 with Bet365 but for this match, we’ll look to a more obvious market with the team to hit most sixes.
The Sunrisers are favourites to win the match but they are the outside option in the six hitting market at best odds of 2.25 with Bet365. Gujarat have that explosive top four and are the favourites for this particular contest at 2.00 with Betway but without those two experienced bowlers in Jadeja and Bravo, I expect them to be outdone again.
Team to hit Most Sixes Odds Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad 2.25 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick) Gujarat Lions 2.00 (Betway), the Tie (8.00 – Betway).
Bowling concerns should also lead to the Sunrisers taking the points here on Sunday. I was impressed by the Champions on Wednesday with Yuvraj and Henriques proving that the batting isn’t all about Warner and Dhawan and with the best seamers in the tournament, they should win this before going deep into the competition once again.
