India Complete Yet Another Series Victory With Fourth Test Win Over England

India wasted no time in taking the final four wickets on the fifth day to win the fourth test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and secure a series victory against England with a 3-0 lead. There is still one more test to be played at Chennai which is now a dead rubber but England will be playing for pride and Indian captain Virat Kohli will want to go 4-0 and humiliate England further.

India ended up winning the fourth test by an innings and 36 runs after Ashwin starred with the ball yet again taking 12 wickets and in doing so made himself the number one contender for the man of the series award. Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay will also be in the running and a strong performance in the fifth test might make it hard for the judges to make a decision.

Kohli has led India well and his batting has also improved with the pressure of captaincy. Kohli who was known earlier for being emotional and a bit of a hot head has curtailed his emotions rather well and has learnt from his mistakes in each test.

In a post match statement, Kohli said “We have been put under pressure many times. I think I would give my team a lot of credit for bouncing back from those tough situations. We haven’t got anything on the platter. We have had to work hard for it. And it’s been a result of constant pressure that we have forced the opposition to make mistakes. This series win is probably the sweetest we’ve had in recent times.”

India will go into the fifth test in Chennai once again with fast bowler M Shami and regular wicket-keeper W Saha. India will most likely retain the same team for the fifth test as all of the players have chipped in during this series.

England on the other hand is under a lot of pressure, especially Alistair Cook. There have been rumors that Cook might relinquish the captaincy after this series and play on only as a batsman. Joe Root is the front runner to take up the test captaincy and Cook has openly endorsed him stating that Root is ready to be the next England captain.

England might make a couple of changes for the fifth and final test which will most likely include the addition of another spinner. The fifth test is scheduled to start on December 16.
