Zimbabwe cricket finally woke up with a dramatic win in the first T20 against India and although we had all written them off, you would have to take the home side more seriously from this point.
Neville Madziva took the plaudits with a dramatic last over but it was the batsmen who set up that win with an above-par total of 170.
Match Odds & Game Preview
India’s win odds for Monday’s second game in Harare have lengthened slightly and you can now back MS Dhoni’s men at a price of 1.20 with Bet365. Even in the shortest format they should be stronger although the concern is with the bowlers who let Zimbabwe post that impressive total.
It’s very much a reserve side as we know but there are selection options and the squad may look to replace Rishi Dhawan and Jaydev Unadkat who both went at more than ten per over.
Zimbabwe are a far more dangerous side in this format with Elton Chigumbura top scoring for the second time on this tour with 54 from just 26 balls including seven sixes. His is a key wicket despite the fact that the all rounder comes in at number seven and I feel that India’s bowlers, with one or two tweaks in personnel, will target his wicket and be much more economical this time.
Betting Pick: Some will look to Zimbabwe at 4.50 with Bet365 but it surely must be an Indian win and a series leveller.

Top Batsman Betting Picks
Very few bookies have opened markets beyond the match result so all of the side bets come from the same source and we start with top batsman where KL Rahul is the favourite for India at 3.75 with Bet365.
Meanwhile, Manish Pandey, who top scored in that opening match, is listed at 5.00 with Bet365 while Dhoni is the usual value pick down the order at an excellent 10.00 with Bet365 again.
Betting Pick: Our pick however is Ambati Rayudu at 4.33 with Bet365. He only managed 19 on Saturday but has enjoyed a consistent time on this tour and that’s a good price for a man in decent form.
Zimbabwe’s version of this market kicks off with Hamilton Masakadza who starts at 3.50 with Bet365 while Chigumbura, who can never be overlooked in any game, is at 6.50 with Bet365. Both are worth considering along with the big hitting keeper Malcolm Waller who is at 5.50 with Bet365 again but Masakadza hinted at an overdue return to form in the first match and he is our pick for Monday.
Other Bet Tips
Even though Bet365 are the only bookmaker to make an effort with this series, the list of markets is still a little restricted. One that should be safe is the Powerplay bet where Bet365 make India heavy favourites at 1.61 to be ahead at the end of the first six overs.
Betting Tip: We’ve mentioned the threat of Chigumbura but he is likely to come in after the Powerplay so it should be a case of India’s top order getting off to the faster start. Elsewhere, a dominant Indian performance should also see them deliver a profit by hitting most sixes and this can be backed at 1.53 with Bet365 again.
Zimbabwe’s win on Saturday has certainly made this T20 series more interesting after India were so strong in the ODIs. The short format often evens things up between two sides and in T20 as we’ve seen, anything can still happen.
Betting Tip: Over three matches however, the stronger team should come through and with some changes in selection, I expect India to take Monday’s second tie quite comfortably.
