Sunrisers Hyderabad Secure Place In IPL 2016 Playoffs

Sunrisers Hyderabad displayed a solid performance and won their eighth game in the tournament against the King’s XI Punjab. With this victory the team has effectively sealed its position in the playoffs.

The Sunrisers chasing 179 were once again off to a flyer with David Warner’s 52 of 41 leading the way and supported by Shikhar Dhawan. The team reached 50 quickly in 5.5 overs. The Kings struck the first blow when Shikhar Dhawan was run out after scoring 25 of 22 deliveries with the score at 68 in 7.6 overs. Warner was then joined by Deepak Hooda and the two were guiding the Sunrisers to a victory when Warner was dismissed by a hitwicket. The score was 97 for 2 in 12.1 overs. Yuvraj Singh then joined Hooda and the two averaged 10 runs an over for the next four overs. Hooda was then dismissed of a Sandeep Sharma delivery in the 15th over. He scored 34 of 22 deliveries.

In the last five overs the Sunrisers required 61 runs. BCJ Cutting joined Yuvraj after Hooda’s dismissal and the two hit some massive strokes to lead their team to victory with two balls to spare. Yuvraj Singh played a great knock of 42 not out of only 24 balls, including three sixes and three fours and BCJ Cutting scored 18 of 11 balls. Their partnership included a critical 19 runs in the 18th over.

In a statement, Sunrisers captain David Warner said “I was a bit worried after the bowling display. We thought 16-165 was par, credit to Hashim Amla, it was a fantastic knock. The surface wasn’t bad, it was just slow, so it was hard as a bowling unit to adapt to those conditions. It was fantastic for youngster Deepak Hooda to come out and play the way he did, and then Yuvraj Singh, who has won so many matches for India”.

The Sunrisers have had a great run in the 2016 IPL and captain David Warner has led from the front. They now sit at the top of the table with 16 points and will want to win their remaining games and continue their momentum into the playoffs. Warner has found the right combination of domestic and overseas players and if they play to potential have a very good chance of making the finals and winning their first 2016 IPL Championship.
