Pune may be out of the running in terms of a place in the knockouts but Delhi have it all to play for and a win in Tuesday’s tie will put them back in the top four. If they are to succeed, Zaheer Khan’s men will have to address a worrying dip in form and decide on their best team heading into the final phase of the groups.
Match Odds & Game Preview
After a dismal showing in their first game against KKR, the Daredevils turned things around in style and a run of wins looked to have booked their place in the play offs. Week 5 has been poor for Khan’s side however and a record of three defeats in their last four leaves them outside of those knockout slots.
The good news is that they have played fewer games than Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians and a win against Pune will see them overtake those two. They are favourites to take the points at odds of 1.73 with Betfair but selection will be key.
Delhi have switched their overseas players around to meet the demands of the conditions and the quality of the opposition. However, from here on in they need to decide on their best XI and stick with it. Players such as Quinton De Kock – with his weight of runs – are a certainty to stay while Imran Tahir, who went for 59 in four overs against Mumbai on Sunday, should really be jettisoned for the benefit of the side.
As for the Supergiants, who are the outside punt at 2.20 with Bet365, their hopes faded among a raft of injuries but there is danger in their new starting XI. However, as long as Delhi pick their best XI, they will give you the profit.
Top Batsmen Betting Picks
De Kock has dominated the batting for Delhi and has top scored in each of the Daredevils last three games. That run may make him seem a little short at 3.00 with 888Sport but he was my top pick against Mumbai and is worth another bet this time around.
That short price does leave value further down with Mayank Agarwal at 5.00 with Bet365 and JP Duminy, at 6.00 with 888Sport, will usually convert at least once during any tournament.
Pune’s top batsman betting is less clear although Ajinkya Rahane has been the most consistent player throughout IPL9 and will start here as favourite at 3.40 with Bet365.
I’m still waiting for Usman Khawaja to fire ; it’s been a brilliant twelve months for him in an international shirt but while he hasn’t replicated that form here, I think it’s time for the left hander to deliver at 3.75 with Bet365.
Other Bet Picks
Usually in the final section we like to find something short and relatively safe but for Tuesday’s fixture, the Man of the Match betting stands out. De Kock has been so dominant for Delhi that he has to be considered at odds of 7.00 with Bet365 but further down the order, Chris Morris looks outstanding at 15.00 with 888Sport.
South African Morris gives you an option with bat and ball and he should be one of the first names on the team sheet as the Daredevils move forward.
There are plenty of dangerous players in this Pune lineup and a big effort from Rahane, Khawaja or George Bailey could take them home. However, I think that Delhi should be strong enough to take the points, IF, they get their selection right.
Betting Tip: Delhi to win is the bet with Usman Khawaja to top score for the Supergiants being the pick of the side markets.
